Hi all, recently had a few problems with my Humax FVP-5000T. The main one, for now, are some recordings are only recording for 1 minute. This has been happening fairly
regular. Another is this message when trying to switch channels, ie. “This function does not work whilst retrieving data for time shift buffer”
I’ve tried a Factory re-set, but still have issues with recording etc.
Any help/solution gratefully received.
The error message ‘……retrieving data for the time shift buffer’ would draw me to think that there is a problem with the internal HDD.
With the 5000T on can you hear the HDD it’s usually quite audible, or even feel for vibrations.
Press the Freeview button on the remote, on screen go to Settings> PVR Settings> Storage> Internal HDD> HDD Test.
Run the test, this should normally take a few minutes.
Does yours pass the test?
If the HDD fails the test (or even if it has) you may want to Format the disk, using the same path as before but replacing HDD Test with Format.
Reformatting may just spark it into life, please remember that all recordings or other files stored on the drive
and any downloaded apps will be erased. Some apps may no longer be available for download.
If the Format has done nothing to alleviate your situation my instinct is the HDD has failed.
Do you have any unused spare HDDs lying around that you could insert in your 5000T and format,
to see if the issue is the original HDD.
If the replacement HDD you inserted works then you may want a buy an HDD for the 5000T that is particularly suited to recording video, like those used in CCTV recorders. There is a name for the type but I can’t remember, perhaps someone will see this and advise you better or perhaps you could ask a new question asking advice on the type and name of any suitable replacements.

If you do find the fault is with the HDD and it needs to be replaced you could have a look at this drive
available via Amazon although sold and dispatched by a third party seller.
User reviews include those that have installed in Humax PVR’s although different models.
You may want to try searching for instructions on replacing a 5000T internal drive, I am sure there have been previous discussions on this forum and this one,
YouTube would also be useful for a video illustration on how best to install a replacement drive.
