Can you elaborate as to where you heard about this forth coming system update please. I have seen no mention of it on the forums or in Humax news.

As the OP did not bother to reply I asked Humax and it was good news……………

    “Thank you for contacting Humax.

Yes, what you read is true, a major system update is planned to be rolled out in Q1/2025. We have no information to share what fixes and features it will exactly contain, but as it will be an Android update, we are hopeful that it will significantly enhance the Aura experience.

    Best Regards,

    Humax Customer Support”

    Hi Trog.

The information was given to me early last week directly from a senior Humax employee with whom I have had regular contact, I don’t deal in speculation.

They said the update should take place in early new year, specifically early January, & will aim to address the freezing, blinking, crashing, home screening, losing channels, failing to record scheduled recordings, unscheduled recordings that won’t stop, & other issues (both new & long occurring). I was aware this information hadn’t been made fully public yet – indeed not all humax employees were aware at that time of when the rollout of the update would take place, although a few customers who have had problems had already been told by employees who did know so people were starting to be told, so I hoped sharing this information when I had chance & was able to do so would help the members of this forum who were unaware & have also experienced these issues.

Hope this helps anyone reading & bubbye now

Thanks for the additional input, That is a long list of flaws to fix so I wish them luck. In a world where rumour, hearsay and conspiracies take as much notice as truth it is always good to get info straight from the horses mouth. Sadly I doubt whether an Android update will add the features I feel are most missing from the Aura which are frame advance and slo mo but it will also be very interesting to see which features are added or improved.

That is a long list! I just hope the attempt at sorting those problems doesn’t lead to more. Wouldn’t surprise me if one of the broadcasters or mux owners screws something else up that needs to be corrected. Never ending fun!

Wouldn’t it be great if Aura got the Android TV 14 upgrade?

Google say that Android TV 14 is supposed to improve performance over older versions of the operating system, especially for those with limited RAM. The reduction of Android TV’s RAM requirements, from 1.5GB to 1GB for 1080p devices and from 2GB to 1.5GB for 4K devices, is the first sign that the claim is true. Other performance-related improvements stated by Google for Android TV 14 include quicker boot times, improved vertical and horizontal scrolling performance, and improved app cold startup times.

What’s the betting Humax don’t even know about Android TV 14, let alone implement it?

I highly doubt that we would get android TV 14 as that would almost certainly require the use of the Google TV UI, I could be wrong but as far as I’m aware, the Google TV UI is not compatible with the Freeview play UI/software components as the aura an FP box. We kind of need these to work. So if the android TV version is updated and its a big if then it would likely be updated to android TV 11 or 12. if I remember correctly, Google may have relaxed the requirement to use Google TV for android TV 12 in some cases.

When asked last week whether we could expect a major update before 1st November 2027, this was the reply:

    Hi there

    Thank you for contacting Humax.

It was mentioned to us recently that Humax plans to release a major Android update for the Aura during the first Quarter of 2025 (no specific date, however).

    Best Regards,

All very well having an update/ upgrade to the Android system but that does not address any inherent faults the Aura

has. The Aura from the off has had many failings that have never been addressed that is part of the Humax operating system, not Android.

The last major update to the Auras own operating system was in 2021, since then there have only been the incremental updates to the Freeview app addressing screen freezes and blackouts on certain channels/ muxes.

The question should be are Humax addressing any of the faults the Auras own system suffers from rather than an upgrade to the Android system.

I think a fair amount of the problems that people who load additional apps have is due to the ancient version of Android currently used, so I don’t think it is a complete waste of time. I agree that some updates to the Aura software to fix the most irritating problems would be very well received.

Hallelujah – finally an update !

I’ve been considering binning my box for an alternative due to constant random rebooting, freezing etc as others have constantly reported in the forum.

Let’s hope this sorts things out.

Worth noting, Humax said their last 2 updates would fix the issues, & not only were no issues fixed but the update created new issues for many users that have also never been resolved. Hence the need to hope! Also sucks that humax have yet again created an update without asking users what features they’d like. All speaks volumes.

If I were Humax my starting mantra would be Stability .. Stability .. Stability.

Fundamentally the box needs stability and predictability. It needs to switch back on from where you left off, not the game of will it do a full boot, start at the home screen, or actually be on the last channel? Essentially it also needs to stop randomly resetting, freezing then crashing when watching recorded or online content.

    > Fix the ‘java.util.concurrent.TimeoutException: android.media.MediaDrm.finalize() timed out after 10 seconds’ error (Most Common)

    > Fix the ‘java.util.ConcurrentModificationException’ error

    > Fix the ‘java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Index: 5, Size: 0’ error

    Nice to have:

    > Add support for Freeview Channel List Management (CLM).

    > Fix periodic picture stutter on iPlayer and ITVX, like it skips a frame or two. This is on standard content, HD and UHD (iPlayer only). The Channel 4, My5, VLC and YouTube players seem to work fine. The adverts on ITVX also do not exhibit the issue.

    > When returning to the recordings list after watching a programme it is the one still highlighted, not a random programme if other recordings have started in the meantime. Would help stop accidental deletions.

    > Option to undelete programmes. Leave them recoverable for a number of days and ability to do a manual empty bin.

    > Automatic management of old finished programmes and series in the recording schedule. Programme CRID codes are only valid for 13 weeks after a series has finished before the broadcaster can use it again for something completely different. Anything older than this should be automatically deleted like the 5000-T did.

I’m not holding my breath though … :|
