InactiveHi
I have a 1TB Samsung external HDD which I format as ext3
I connect it to my Humax Foxsat HDR vU7.51 (still going strong!)
Then I download recordings, some of which are over 4GB (hence the need for ext3)
I then connect it to a Windows laptop and use Ext2 Volume Manager to assign a drive letter
Finally I transfer the movie to my ReadyNAS and then to my iPad
When the external drive fills up, I wipe it (reformat) using a freeware utility in Windows and start over
I have been doing this successfully for years
However I cant remember the process to successfully reformat so that windows can read
After reformatting it and assigning a drive letter, windows can see it but complains that it is not formatted
Anyone know what I have forgotten to do?
Many thanks
Ian

InactiveHi Martin
Thanks for the quick reply, I am using AOMEI (aomeitech.com)
This is not what I used to use and may be the issue
Trouble is I cant remember what I used to use (may have been EaseUS?)
Thanks

So please describe in detail the operations you are performing with Aeomi?

InactiveI use the utility to format the external HDD and select ext3
Fat32 also works, and windows can read this, but that is no good for large files

Windows won’t read ext3 drives natively so you must have been using some add on to read them. Try this article for some suggestions https://www.howtogeek.com/112888/3-ways-to-access-your-linux-partitions-from-windows/

InactiveI don’t remember using one of these but I must have as “ext2explore” works like a charm – Thanks Martin

Last question, I am running Firware vU7.51, do you know if there is a later version I could download?

Glad you got it working.
Last question, I am running Firware vU7.51, do you know if there is a later version I could download?
Firmware U7.51 is the loader; the main firmware latest versions are (I think) 1.00.21 for the standard firmware or 4.1.3 for the custom firmware.

InactiveThanks Martin, I have searched many links for “Media & File Server Bundle for the Foxsat HDR – Release 4 – PART 1” all the way to 6, but the links to the software and instructions do not work
“403 Forbidden” or “The file link that you requested is not valid.” or
“Dangerous Webpage Blocked You attempted to access:https://vpn-access-protection.com/landing-page/This is a known dangerous webpage. It is highly recommended that you do NOT visit this page”
Do you have a link to the software that I can download?
Thanks

InactiveThanks again Martin that worked
Last question (promise I will stop bugging you), is this upgrade recommended?
i.e will it make transferring files from Humax to portable device significantly easier?

I think you ought to be thanking Brian actually.
Last question (promise I will stop bugging you),
There is no limit on the number of questions you can ask.
is this upgrade recommended?
i.e will it make transferring files from Humax to portable device significantly easier?
What the custom firmware does is add additional functionality alongside the existing Humax software. I am not an expert on the Foxsat custom firmware but it does add significant functionality to the standard software. It is IMPORTANT not to get confused and assume the Freeview HDR-FOX T2 custom firmware is the same thing. A list of the packages that can be installed on the FOXSAT is at http://hummypkg.org.uk/foxsat/ Sadly this forum lost its most knowledgeable satellite expert when Graham Thompson died suddenly 18 months ago. You might get a better answer to your question over at https://hummy.tv in the Foxsat Customised Firmware section where some of the developers post answers.
