InactiveI use a 1100S and will soon 12 y.o. dumb HDReady set with an up to date Smart model.
They are generally Freeview based 4K models, so I assume up-scaling will be through the 1100S. I believe this will be inadequate.
Freesat have their own boxes now, hence my wondering if Humax has left the Freesat market.

ParticipantFreesat licensed the new generation 4K Freesat box to Arris. So far it appears to be very buggy.

InactiveThanks! At moment looks rubbish, but a post earlier this month suggests an update is forthcoming to iron out bugs. Hmm!
Any experience how the 1100S will cope with 4k tv?
And who the xxxx are Arris?

Arris merged with Pace who designed some of the Sky PVRs. I think Arris have in turn been taken over by Commscope.

InactiveThe 1100S does not cope with 4kTV very well at all as there is no 4kTV on Freesat. Anything that is 4k is downloaded from the Internet.

SES AStra have a 4K demo channel on 28.2E. Many 4K smart TV’s with a freesat tuner can view this, including my LG C9 OLED

Just enter 998 to view.

InactiveAh yes, I had completely forgotten about that gripping tale of conspiracy, intrigue with a bit of footie and F1 thrown in.
Yes, I have watched it and it’s pretty good quality, but not much of a choice of programme material though.
But will the 1100S upscale to 4k anyway?

No but a 4K TV will.
The G2 boxes look pretty good on a decent 4K TV. Lots of Free 4K content on Youtube. If you have an Aura BBC iplayer has Free 4K HLG HDR content that looks stunning.

InactiveSince my distant OP, being somewhat unaware of progress of 4K content growth, I’m musing over the need and wisdom of going for a 4K set rather than Full HD. Now approaching my 85 my visual acuity diminishes.
From members’ posts above it seems as of now the Humax 1100S will be adequate for 4K, but mine is nearing 5 years old.
Help me make a good decision.
