Just wanted to know if anyone is using the VLC application for playing DLNA hosted content.

I’m using VLC Player with content hosted on a QNAP NAS. I can play content comprising mostly .mp4 and .mkv files with no problem but have trouble navigating some as the video length shows as 0:00 when playing so cannot skip forward or back.

Another thing is that none of the video files, no matter what format, show a length in the folder index, they are all 0:00.

I had no such issues with the media player on my old 5000T which showed all this information correctly so I don’t believe its an issue with the QNAP.

I’ve done some Googling to no avail so any suggestions or ideas much appreciated.

Plex works on the Aura. Not tried it but Kodi may work.

    Thanks Graham,

I did have a look at Plex but it does not support acting as a client to an existing DLNA server, from what I can see it can only act as a server in its own right.

I think Kodi is probably overkill but will investigate.

I have a plex server on my laptop and some files on a USB Hard drive. I can play them on the Aura so it does act as a client though a 4K firestick does a better job.
