InactiveHi I am new to the forum and would appreciate any advice on the following upgrade.
We currently run a 9300T through an Acer X1210 projector as our TV (we do not have a separate TV).
Due to the increasing frustration caused by certain recorded programs and sound sync issues, we are planning to upgrade to a 5000T. (which we undertsand does not face the sync problems)
we wanted to have access to Amazon Prime Video bu understand that Humax does not support this.
It has been suggested to me that a chromecast dongle plugged in the back of the 5000t USB socket would allow us to cast Amazon Prime from a laptop or mobile device.
does this sound feasible?
thanks

Welcome to our forum.
Depending on the projector spec.
we wanted to have access to Amazon Prime Video but understand that Humax does not support this.

No it will not, the Humax has no HDMI video inputs. However your projector will have.
More info is required as to your projector capability both video and audio and your laptop. . A chromecast connected to the projector may work. Audio is likely to be stereo only and of poor quality
A laptop using chrome and the prime website. Will have a cast icon to a chromecast connected to your projector. It will cast what you see on your laptop. If projector and laptop have the same resolution (ideally full-HD 1920 x 1080 and the same aspect ratio 16:9) then it is likely to work.
Without this basic info hard to say.
If you laptop is full-HD and has hdmi out. You just need to connect this to the projector assuming it has HDMI in.
Basically you need a AV receiver (AVR) with it’s own speakers. The audio from from a projector is going to be very poor.

A chromecast dongle plugged in the back USB socket of the 5000t USB possibly provide enough power to power the chromecast dongle. You would still need to connect the dongle to your TV or av amp via HDMI, and also you would need to setup your laptop, or mobile device, to control it via your home network.
The disadvantage of using the 5000T to power the Chromecast dongle is that you would need to have the 5000T switch on to use the dongle.

That has no way of working. Sure you can provide power from many devices including TV USB sockets.
It can only provide video to a device with Hdmi video inputs The only device the OP mentions with this capability is a projector.

You have edited what I posted and changed it to appear that I have stated something totally different to what I have said.
Please do not do that again.

InactiveProbably not done on purpose, but due to the appalling method of editing quotes on this forum. But you did quote it, thus sealing it’s fate forever even if GLT goes back and edits the original mistake.
I must admit that I had a problem trying to sort out what had happened and who said what above. (And that was only by re reading previous quotes of quotes.)
Why the hell people have to pointlessly quote quotes of quotes (and then get it wrong) when engaged in a pretty much one to one conversation, I have not a clue, and it frequently leads to miss quotes here.

InactiveThanks for your response – Graham and Luke – seems its not going to be straight forward.
would it make a difference if i added a firestick instead of the chrome cast – i suspect the issues are the same – power supply and audio

A firestick will plug into your projector HDMI in. It has multiple catch up services and also supports DNLA playback. This can stream Video content stored locally on say a PC. It comes with a power adaptor but can also be powered from a suitable usb port. It has Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+
It connects to the internet wirelessly or with a optional wired ethernet adaptor.
Just what content do you want to watch on your projector ?
Is it possible to run a single cat 7 cable from a PC with HDMI out to the projector. ?
Do you have a laptop with a screen resolution that matches the projector ?
A chromecast connected to your projector and powered from it. Also connects to the internet. It can also be used to view content on your PC or mobile device provided the source is Chromecast enabled.
Google Chrome is chromecast enabled.
You could for instance find a Youtube video using a phone. Play it back and press the little TV screen cast) icon and the chromecast will pick up the stream direct from the internet and play it back via your projector.
You cannot plug it into laptop HDMI socket (which is an output). You have to connect it to a HDMi input (as on your projector).

InactiveOnly the 4k Firestick needs an external supply (So Amazon says), so unless your stuff is 4k (I haven’t checked) ……

Chromecast comes with a seperate power supply but it has a usb socket in it.
According to spec it uses 2W at 5V so projector port unlikely to supply enough current. Presumably the projector needs power anyway. So powering either a Chromecast or 4K firestick shouldn’t be a major issue.
Only option to view a 5000T output on the projector is either a long enough HDMI cable or a pair of baluns.
eg
The OP would only need to use the ir return if the projector is used in a different room to the 5000T.

Inactivethanks again, graham and trev.
i am rethinking my setup in the light of your feedback.
i will use the 5000t as it seems to be a worthwhile improvement over the 9300t.

Is the projector a new purchase or do you already have one ? Will the 5000T and the projector be used in the same room (needed to sort out remote control of the 5000T source box )
If so a model number and supported video resolutions would help.
