InactiveWhen my smart TV is showing a satellite programme the signal is lost when the FOXSAT-HDR switches on. The TV is an LG-43UM7600PLB. The TV is connected to the FOXSAT-HDR with an HDMI cable to HDMI-in-3 on the TV, and with co-ax from LNB-1-OUT on the FOXSAT to the SATELLITE-IN on the TV. The satellite dish has a quad LNB and two cables run from the dish to LNB-1-IN and LNB-2-IN on the FOXSAT.

ParticipantYou need to turn on power saving in sby on the Foxsat.
When the Foxsat is on or about to record. The TV tuner can only use Channels that are in the same band (high/low) and polarisation (vertical or horizontal).
When the Foxsat is in full low power sby the TV Tuner has full control of the lnb so all channels are usable.
For more info see this thread. This contains links to data that will tell you how to identify the channels that will be usable on the TV when the Foxsat is booted or recording in sby.

InactiveThanks. That explains it. So it is an intrinsic weakness with the FOXSAT. Presumably, the only way I can have reliable TV viewing of all channels when the FOXSAT is recording, is to watch terrestrial TV rather than satellite.

It’s nothing to do with the Foxsat. It’s down to the way a universal lnb works.
The tuner 1 out terminal is provided so that both tuners can be used with a single lnb connection by linking tuner 1 out to tuner 2 in. This provides dual recording capability with some limitations. You could set up the box in single cable mode and use the other cable to give the TV it’s own lnb feed.
Alternatively change the lnb from a quad to a octo which will give you 8 outputs.

ParticipantTry this –
Set a manual recording on BBC1-HD at a known time so you know when the Foxsat-HDR will wake up to record it. Tune the TV to BBC-2 HD and watch it when the Foxsat-HDR wakes up to record it. Guess what you should not lose the signal.
You need to understand how a universal lnb works.

I actually use this arrangement with a 4K TV and a Foxsat-HDR and it works just fine provided the recording choices are matched to the limitations.
In fact when you lose the signal roughly 50% of the channels will still be viewable.
Everything depends on which channel you have set tuner 1 to record.
Did you actually look at the thread I posted ?

InactiveThanks for your advice. I have linked tuner 1 out to tuner 2 in and used the other cable to give the TV it’s own LNB feed. Experience is yet to tell whether that gives a reasonable functionality for us. If not, I will return to terrestrial TV and leave satellite to the FOXSAT. It is just not satisfactory to have only 50% of the satellite channels available while the PVR is recording.

For most recording combinations a little less than 50% of the total channel count can be viewed. You need to do a factory reset to get the box into single cable mode. The software is aware of what combinations are possible and will not let you make impossible combinations.
The channel up down buttons will cycle through all available channels.
If you have excel on a windows machine the excel app will suggest what alternative channels will work.

InactiveThanks. I have tried to do a factory reset, but after pressing MENU the up/down keys do not have any effect and the screen does not move on to SETUP or anything else. I have tried with the remote and with the buttons behind the front screen. I have also tried it with the TV on and off.

You cannot do a reset if the box is recording or within about 20 mins of making a recording.
alternatively
Enter the Setup Menu. Don’t look at the display.
Press Red Green Yellow Blue Green Yellow Blue.
Open the antenna setting menu.
Post what it says.

ParticipantTime for a simple test. assuming you have a English postcode
Set a recording on 111 ITV-HD, Find a programme on 121 Channel 4+1 that overlaps, Set a 2nd recording on this.
When both recordings are in progress, check you can watch Film4 +1 on 301.
