InactiveHi,
My Humax HDR 1100S box displays a Chinese message during startup.
See attached image.
This is so weird. Is this expected? I believe it's been doing that from the date I received it (more than a year ago), not 100% sure though. Got it through Amazon.
Thanks
Fred
NB: any idea what the message means?

InactiveI suspect that it is generated by your TV rather than the HDR-1xx0S.

InactiveThanks for your reply but no, this is not generated by my Philips 42PFL6067 TV.

InactiveVery odd, I have not seen any reports of such a message and in any case Humax is Korean owned.
I assumed it relates to the HDMI port becoming live before the boot process reaches picture display.

InactiveThis is extremely worrying.
Here is my boot sequence:
– I turn on the TV
– I turn on the HDR-1100S.
– The "Freesat – HUMAX screen appears" (see attached picture 'boot_1.jpg')
– The Chinese text is displayed (see attached 'boot_2.jpg')
– The box's hard drive starts to spin and data is accessed
– The Freesat logo is displayed (without "HUMAX" this time) (see attached 'boot_3.jpg')
System information off my box:
Model number: HDR-1100S
Software version: UKSFAA 3.00.96
Loader version: UKSFAA 1.09
Update date: 13 AUG 2018
MICOM version: UKSFAA 8.04.01
No software update is detected when I go in the software update menu.

InactiveThe timing of the text could well correspond to a picture resolution change. The screen starts in a low resolution change before switching to the setting (Auto or specified). Try changing this to 1080P to see if this removes the message.
For info – was that a normal standby boot or a power off boot?

InactivePhilips no longer make TV’s. The brand is owned by a Japanese company who manufacture in China. The message is almost certainly generated by your TV.

This is a 2012 TV. At that time, Philips did make TVs and the firmware/software was not designed in China.

My TV is configured to use 1080P.
I changed to 1080I, which is the default setting. Same result.
I unplugged the box, waited about a minute, then plugged it back.
Same result.
I am not sure the message is in Chinese. I had a Chinese ex-colleague look at it and it said the text was garbage. It might be in Korean.
I tried the Google Translate app, which can translate the text in picture, and any attempt to do a Korean translation results in something not meaningful.

InactiveDo you have anything else attached to the TV (perhaps a HDMI-CEC capable device)?

InactiveThe box goes through a modern Yamaha HDMI A/V amplifier, that I could bypass. I will do the test and report back, but I strongly doubt this is the issue as no other equipment going through the Yamaha amplifier make this message appear.

InactiveYou are the only user ever to have reported these characters on the TV when using a Humax box. Odds are it is not the Humax generating this. Then again it could be a first. In the past I have seen hdmi resolution messages appear on some TV’s during the boot sequence, but always in English. Btw… Philips fully transferred it’s TV business in April 2012 having previously announced it in 2011. So possible your TV is Chinese made.

InactiveI think you will find that the text is Japanese.

I think you will find that the text is Japanese.
Which would tie in with the Philips brand now being Japanese, maybe made initially in Japan.

InactiveI moved things around quite a bit. I tried the same setup, but with an ASUS HDMI monitor. Started the box and… no message. Read on… as it is not over just yet.
I then unplugged everything again, wired back my Philips TV and… surprise: no message either. Waited for the box to enter power saving mode (about 5-10 minutes, you hear the hard drive stop spinning), started it again. No message. Tried two hours later… the message came back! Now back again with the ASUS monitor… no message. Back again with the Philips TV: no message. Am I going to go mad?
I won’t be able to isolate the problem, much to my surprise.
I believe this MIGHT be the Philips TV because when there is no message I see “HDMI 1” quickly being displayed in the top left corner of the image. The sat box might fiddle with the video signal in a way which is SOMETIMES uncomfortable with my TV. The amplifier is probably not the issue as things go through HDMI 2 which is a clue it is not part of the problem.
What I know for sure is that with regular everyday use, every single day that I start the sat box, I get the message. So to test things properly, I would need to leave my ASUS HDMI monitor permanently in the living room and see how it goes day afer day. Which I am not ready to do right now as the monitor is for the computer in another room.
Hell, I like when I understand things!
