1100 s I have switched the HDMI cable to a different location, remade the F connectors, checked that settings show two cables connected and I still cannot record two programmes and watch a different channel at the same time. When two programmes are recording I cannot change channel and so I cannot watch a programme that is not recording. Can this box truly record two different channels whilst watching another?

Yes it can, but you have to understand what programmes are on which transponders. Try entering 106 to go to BBC 1-HD. Press the instant record button. Enter 102 to go to BBC 2-HD and press the instant record button to create a 2nd recording. Because the two recordings are being made from the same transponder only one tuner is required.

Now cycle through all the available channels using the programme up/down buttons. If any are missing make a note of which they are (also confirm you have a english postcode). You may have a bad connection on the tuner 2 in connection.

Post an example of what two channels you are recording. If you confirm an English postcode I will post a list of channels you should be able to 3rd view.

    Thanks Graham…….I have a Scottish post code AB30 1YX

Guess that would put STV-HD at lcn 111. Makes it a bit more dificult to predict as I have a West Midlands postcode.

Try the test I suggested but use

972 for BBC 1 HD and 949 For BBC 2-HD

when recording the above two enter 978 (BBC 1- HD Northern Ireland) and confirm if you can view this channel

That’s because of your Scottish postcode Try using the alternative pair posted in #4

That way I can be positive which transponder is being used to record from. Channel 978 is a vertical polarised transponder so viewing this will confirm you can use both horizontal and vertically polarised transponders.

Thanks your box must be working correctly.

OK lets consider what transponders you were likely to be using. 102 would be BBC 2-HD which is a national channel so would be 10773 H. 106 would be BBC 1 Scotland HD on 11023 H.

That would mean only channels on either 10773 H or 11023 H would be viewable

Perhaps you could confirm this list is correct

    173 BBC Four

    110 BBC Four

    608 Cbeebies

    949 BBC Two HD

    950 BBC One Lon

    951 BBC One CI

    954 BBC One East W

    965 BBC One West

    968 BBC Two Eng

    981 BBC RB 1

    107 BBC Four HD

    200 BBC NEWS HD

    601 CBeebies HD

    973 BBC One ScotHD

    976 BBC One Wal HD

Basically your choice of recording channel for both recordings dictates what 3rd channels can be viewed while recording two.

Ideally if possible set the two from the same transponder.

Some common combinations – all of them can be found by downloading the static Excel list linked to above

Recording any two from each group will make all other channels viewable

    173 BBC Four 10773 H

    110 BBC Four 10773 H

Thanks……looks like I cannot record regional channels (STV) if I want to record two programmes together and watch another…….. so record two BBC channels and watch STV looks like a fix.

You have been a great help Graham, thanks for your patience…….it’s a pity this was not explained in the SetUp info

They probably think that the average user does not have sufficient nous to understand the intricacies of the techniques used to get the signals to your box. This is also true of terrestrial DTV as well, but not quite as complex because there are fewer multiplexes (transponders in sat speak) to chose from.

It’s a tad complex and I guess would cause great difficulties for customer support. A sky-HD box can’t record one and watch another at all. Unfortunately unlike the BBC ITV and STV don’t give you all the regional channels in the epg with higher numbers. The much older Foxsat-HDR together with the Custom Firmware allows you to unhide the commercial regional channels so they appear in the epg.

If you have A PC running Microsoft Office download the Excel application linked to above. This has a GUI built in that will tell you how to view a 3rd channel while recording two by switching to a different channel. See image

You could perhaps consider changing the postcode to a English borders, one.

As you say recording 103 as one choice and the other from the BBC-HD variants is likely the easiest way,

As you might guess it’s even more complicated if you only have one cable which can be used to feed both tuners.

Hint – You can actually record the 3rd viewed channel if it’s viewed from the beginning using the time shift buffer. You can use a reminder to switch to the channel.

These are on the same transponder as your STV SD regional variant on 103.

    115 ITV3 10906

    116 ITV3+1 10906

    731 talkSPORT 10906

Try setting a recording on 103 and a second on one of the alternative BBC 1 HD regions. Now add a watch reservation on 105.

When the programme you have reserved on 115 starts the box should switch to that channel despite the recordings. When any one of the two recordings finishes. Press the instant recording button.

Check the recordings list you should find a recording of 115 in progress which you can watch from the beginning using chasing playback.

The fact that you can easily add multiple tuners to a single feed from an aerial makes a very big difference The aerial unlike a lnb is a passive device so needs no band or polarisation switching by a connected tuner.

Eg FVP-4000/5000T 3 tuners recording up to 4 at once subject to Multiplex
