InactiveHi
I’ve just bought a FVP-5000T and I am quite pleased to see that it has a server function.
I can see recordings on the machine in Finder on my MacBook but I haven’t been able to watch any over the network so far.
I’ve tried VLC but get an error, also tried Quicktime Player and Servetome/Streamtome without success.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Inactive“The recordings are encrypted, and will only play on the machine that recorded them.”
However
I have found that another Humax PVR (in my case a 4000T, and a Fox-T2, and a H3Espresso) will play the recordings over my LAN. This includes HD recordings.
As a bonus, my Samsung Smart TV (MU6120) will also play the recordings. It has a built in DLNA media player.

InactiveThat’s disappointing but many thanks for the info.
I see you have it in quotes. Are you quoting from a particular document?
I’ve searched the product manual but it doesn’t seem to be included in that.

Are the recordings you are trying to play SD or HD recordings? I would expect it to be possible to play SD recordings (I can do this using VLC on a Windows 10 PC) but not sure about HD recordings.

InactiveI’m fairly certain they are SD recordings.

So in VLC how are you trying to play them? What error message do you receive?

It seems to be received wisdom on these forums and elsewhere. If you search for “encrypted” on the forum, several hits say this.

In Finder I double click on the file with the .ts extension and it opens VLC with the the file shown in the playlist. I then click on the play button. Previously I thought I got an error message (but maybe that was with one of the other programs that I tried) now nothing happens. I’ve upgraded to VLC 3.0.4.

It isn’t clear to me whether that is trying to play the file via SAMBA or DLNA. Barry reported that SD recordings on Windows 10 were decrypted when copied via SAMBA on Windows 10 but so far I haven’t managed to replicate that finding.
The way I am playing files with VLC 3.0.4 on Windows 10 is as follows:
Open VLC
Select Local network> Universal Plug ‘n’ Play
This should show FVP-5000T DMS and the IP address in the right hand panel
Click on it and it should show ‘My Contents’
Click on ‘My Contents’ and I get two items: Internal HDD and Recordings.
Click on Recordings and you should see a list of programs.
Click on the desired program
No idea if these instructions will work on a Mac.
