I think in all the years we’ve had the Humax, I have only re-set/search twice before, the reason being to see if there were any new channels about.
Is this something that is the “norm”, otherewise how else would you know if new channels had been introduced.

Without knowing which box you have difficult to comment.
If it’s Freesat then first generation boxes (eg Foxsat-HDR) update during overnight housekeeping, provided they are in sby. Second generation boxes HDR-xxxxS update automatically as soon as the change occurs while booted.
