InactiveHi,
I have recently purchased a 5000T as a replacement for a FOX-SAT that was running custom firmware. One of the selling points was that the system came with SAMBA and full network support including wifi. The documentation says I can watch media on my PC. What it fails to mention is that you cannot watch HD media since it is encrypted. Why?
Really unhappy since I often make recordings copy to USB HDD and then watch on a TV at my boat. I cant do this anylonger with HD.
Any solutions to this?

It is a restriction imposed by the broadcasters rather than Humax. For the FVP-5000T the only workaround is the rather obvious one of recording material that needs to be played on other devices in SD only.

InactiveThanks for the response. I think I will return the box then and pick up a second hand HDR-T2 and run custom firmware.
Think Humax need to make this clear in their literature.

Yes that is a perfectly valid approach. Of course the problem is finding a good one; there are a slowly increasing number of reports of HDR-FOX T2s with obscure hardware faults.

InactiveI’m still trying to work out how to watch SD recordings over samba – they just won’t play for me – the transport stream won’t demux.

Afaik you have to use Samba to copy SD files to your PC as per this faq

InactiveHi,
I found the 5000T to be absolutely rubbish such that I cut my losses and sold on via ebay. I purchased a 2nd hand HDR-FOXT2 and put custom firmware on. Which runs a treat. The 5000T would not work with Samba you had to go to my pc on win10 and access as a media device and it sent MPG files.
the 5000T is just not a credible networking device

InactiveI ftp’ed the files off as per the faq and they were still unplayable.
Actually, I only tried it with a radio programme – perhaps I should try an SD recording.
Hey ho! Takes me back to my early days with the FOX-T2

InactiveYou cant copy or ftp the files as .ts files as they are encrypted.
You must browse via my pc in windows 10 to the media entry for the 5000T
You will then see a directory structure and mpg files which will play once copied.

InactiveAnd radio programmes don’t show on the media browser at all so you can’t copy them. Full stop. I guess I will have to break out the analogue recording cables and get them off that way – pretty primitive for the 21st century.
So what exactly is the purpose of ftp/samba if files can’t be used once copied? I guess I can upload files from elsewhere but that’s pretty minimal for a whole samba/ftp server.

InactiveThats why I got rid of it. Sorry but the 5000T is just useless. I does not do what it is advertised to do.
And dont get me started on encrypted HD!

Barry’s post linked to above clearly shows Radio recordings with a mpeg icon. Copying to a PC using the usual drag and drop (or copy and paste) removes the encryption on SD video and radio. The files are usable with many PC media playback software apps like VLC or using media playback apps on a smart phone or tablet.
HD can be copied for safe keeping say you need to replace the hard disk and then replaced.
Additionally Barry posts you can view HD on another 4000/5000T as you can with a pair of HDR-FOX-T2 boxes thanks to DTCP-IP protected servers.

InactiveYes, strangely I could not see radio programmes when browsing via Windows but when I tried via an Andriod uPnP app last night I could see and download radio programmes so I guess that solves my need. Samba/ftp is still pretty pointless (may turn them off as they don’t seem to do anything useful) but the DLNA server allows viewing and playing although not deleting so I am going to have to remember to go to the box to delete the things I have viewed.

Samba provides a more convenient method of copying SD TV and Radio to a mobile device you can view offline anywhere, compared to USB. Say 35000ft in a aeroplane.
