After must research I finally decided to take the plunge and invest in a FVP-5000T 1TB box. All in all it is a great box and I love the series record feature as well as Freeview Play. But there are one or two niggles where it lets itself down IMHO. No matter what I do I cannot get the box to see any 5GHz networks. This means that I cannot use the livetv app as my phone and tablet both connect to a 5GHz network. I’m actually using a LAN cable to connect to my router so it’s a little academic.
Amusingly when setting up the initial screen resolution it offers 2160p as an option but this defaults the box to 576p
I was briefly excited that they may have sneaked in 4k support for playing external media but it looks like a simple programming error.Don’t get me wrong I really like my FVP-5000T but the Humax developers do seem to have missed a couple of tricks.
Hi welcome to our forum. The very similar FVP-4000T when first launched did have 2160P as an option later removed by a software update. With no native 4K content available and likely no usb or streamed support for 4K content and all 4K TV’s having 2160p upscaling it was probably deemed redundant.
I guess the FVP-5000T will also have some built in support for 2160P but is not enabled by the software.
5GHz Wireless should work on both models.
If you have the right wireless setup on your router it shouldn’t matter if the 5000T and your phone are on different frequency WiFi.
I have mixed WiFi kit there is no issue with any device seeing the others.

I am surprised though that it can’t see the 5Ghz networks in my router. I don’t know what chipset the 5000T uses so I can’t check compatibility. I’ve written to Humax support so we’ll see what they say.

See my edit – it’s likely to be a setup issue on your router. Check the settings on both bands are the same and have a different SSID.
5000T and 4000T share the same motherboard. See the photo Barry posted of the internals of a 5000T. Also Barrie’s post after asking Humax confirming dual band support.

If your wired devices will not talk to your Wireless ones and vice versa, chances are you have two subnets set up on your router.

It’s only an idea , but I’ve found that. my 5000t will only recognise anything on your routers Wi-Fi is if your 5000t is on the Wi-Fi (wlan)
as soon as you connect it on the Lan hotwire it will switch off the entire
WLAN side of the box.
My new 5000T linked to 5GHz straight away. However, as alluded to above, I have different SSIDs for 2.4 and 5. The 5GHz is the same as the 2.4, but with a “5” added to the end. So if it were Xxxx on 2.4 then Xxxx5 on 5GHz.

I don’t know if it’s just my box but after selecting a different tv channel I can go back to the previous channel by pressing”back” but only if I do it within a short time , if I wait over 10 seconds or so pressing “ back button has no effect.
Is this normal?
