BBC iPlayer kept buffering on the 1100S* and, while taking a look at my internet connection, I noticed that the Humax keeps disconnecting itself from the modem. See attached activity log. Up & down like a yoyo! I changed ethernet cables (it’s plugged directly in to BTHub), switched ports – and still it happens.

There is no problem with the devices connected to the other 3 ports (Apple TV, Naim hifi and a powerline adapter), which all show a permanent connection.

    Am running the latest firmware.

Have googled and found no other complaints like this. I’m not sure how it’s impacting the use of the box but it’s not right. I checked a friend’s BTHub log, and their YouView box is not dropping its connection to their Hub.

    Any thoughts? Thanks.

[*Btw I think I solved the iPlayer buffering by switching to the Beta version.]

    Hub 4

There used to be issue with early BT Home Hubs that stopped Linux boxes connecting but that doesn’t sound to be the case here. I have seen low level incompatibilities between kit that I have resolved temporarily by interposing a network switch between the incompatible devices. If you happen to have a spare one lying around then you could see if it helps. If it does then I will look up what I did to resolve the problem permanently because for the life of me I can’t remember at the moment.

I would firstly try rebooting the home-hub as problems can occur on a single port.

If that does not do the trick I would suspect a faulty cable, do you have another you could try? You could also watch the green network LED during the problem if it does go on and off then this strongly suggests the cable or home-hub port, which you can try swapping to another.

In his first post he has swapped ports and cables.

    Thanks

The BT Hub is rebooored after everything I do, eg most recently after I switched off Smart Setup. The Hub is functioning perfectly, its lights are fine and the event log shows me the broadband connection is uninterrupted.

Whichever port/cable I plug the Humax into is the port that goes up & down. When I first identified the problem the Humax was plugged into port 2. I switched the cable plugged in to the Apple TV (and port 3) and plugged that cable into the Humax Port 2, same cable, and Apple TV are all fine. But port 3 and the Humax drop like a yoyo.

As the event log shows, it’s only the Humax that is dropping the connection. If it was either the port or the cable, Apple TV should now be dropping and the Humax stable.

The issue seems to lie with the Humax box.

    A unusual problem.

I can’t think of anything else other than to inspect the network port on the Humax for anything that could be causing it.

It is now sounding like a dry joint on the motherboard.
