Good morning, I am new to this forum and i have had a look around to se if anyone else is having the problems that I am having with my FVP 4000T Mocha.

I cannot find a similar issue so I will post mine below

I purchased the above Freeview play box last weekend and I updated it to the latest software straight away..ie

    Software version…UKTFAE 1.01.57

    Software build date…30 November 2016.

I have a problem with the epg.

It randomly depopulates certain channels. and instead of the name of upcoming programmes it displays the words ‘no programme information’.

It does this randomly, and across a variety of channels, both hd and sd.

It usually eventually repopulates, although never whilst i am looking at it, and then other channels will lose their epg population.

The signal strength and the signal quality on tuner 1 are both currently showing 100%

Both of the above signals vary a bit but they have never dropped below 90%.

I do not have anything attached to increase signal strength. It is what it is.

As the crow flies i am probably only 5 or 6 miles (maybe not even that) from Winter Hill, and my aerial looks straight at that transmitter.

The signal strength and quality on both tuners 2 and 3 show 0%

These two tuners have never shown anything above 0%

Is that right? Is my box faulty? Is something else at fault?

However it does seem to record everything that i have asked it to record.

I look forward to your replies

    Welcome to our Forum :-)

I have witnessed missing epg data, usually, in my case, it is because changes are being made to upcoming broadcast data, and as you have witnessed it never populates whilst you are actually viewing the guide. Best solution I have found so far is to leave unit tunes to eg BBC1 for a short period for the guide to repopulate.

As for tuner indication – they only display strength indications when in use eg record 3 programmes across 3 muxes to see all indicating, try test recordings on channels 1, 4, 11 if you want to test.

Signal strength of a 90 to a 100% may be too high particularly if the signal quality is dropping below 100%. My advice would be to experiment with a variable attenuator in the aerial feed.

Thank you for such a fast reply, i will do as you suggest regarding the repopulation.

I suppose our go to channel when we initially look at the epg is BBC1 HD. We tend to start there and scroll, and plan recordings accordingly. I will leave it tuned to BBC1 HD as per your suggestion

It really is a pain when we scroll, sometimes even a couple of days ahead, and there is nothing there, and yet the channel either side of the channel with the missing epg, is fully populated.

I have posted my issue on another chat forum as well as here and i will cross post potential solutions as and when they are suggested.

So far, you are the only person to have noticed exactly what i am seeing on my epg.

Somebody on the other forum did suggest the same as you regarding recording 3 programmes, across 3 different Mpx s, and i will do just that. But so far my Humax 1tb Mocha doesnt seem to have missed any recordings

    Once again, many thanks

I will do as you suggest and acquire a variable attenuator.

Would the easiest/quickest place to get one be ebay?

    Maybe Maplins at a push?

I do realise that getting one today (Easter day for those reading back post 16/04/2017) is out of the question.

    I got mine for eBay.

    Maybe Maplins at a push?

They certainly list a suitable one but you will pay twice as much.

I made a journey to my local Toolstation and bought one, not fitted yet but hope to get around to it the next few days.

It looks like the one that you have purchased is for sky type connectors.

I ve already ordered one from ebay for normal freeview type connections, but i do thank you for you help.

That’s is indeed what it looks like but looking around at a lot TV accessories these days you will see F type connections.

I had to renew my aerial amp because my old one had water come down the aerial lead into the amp and shorted out the circuitry there in and the only RF amps available all had F connectors so seems like F connecter are becoming the norm.

F to Belling Lee male and female converters are available. But F type connectors are actually easier to fit properly than Belling Lee ones and don’t fall out of the sockets either nor require soldering for long term reliability. Most quality ancillary kit including quality aerials, splitters amplifiers and attenuators use them these days.

Belling Lee is a very old design (long before we used frequencies as high as UHF and above)

    Hi there,

I can confirm that I fitted the attenuator just last week.

I turned it right down so that my signal strength is now 72%, and the signal quality is still around the 99% to 100% mark. I cannot change or have any affect on that

    Unfortunately, it hasn’t worked.

I still have programme information missing across different channels.

Currently there is no channel information available on BBC1 HD from 16.00 hours today until 19.00 hours tomorrow (Tuesday).

The One Show tomorrow is the first one that appears, and it looks like everything moving forward from then is displayed. (for BBC1 at least).

Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

The box itself hasnt missed a beat (or a recording) so it isnt going back, and apart from the missing epg i am happy enough…for now!

I m on winter hill…Well not exactly on it, but my aerial looks directly at winter hill.

I am about 5 ish miles maybe as the crow flies from that transmitter.

Ok, different transmitter but I’ve had the same issue for nearly a year since owning the box and haven’t found an answer. As hardly anyone else seems to have the issue I’m probably going to have to get a replacement from Humax. I have another issue that I can’t remember anyone else on here having – the subtitles come on randomly fairly frequently, including when switching inputs.

The last update has fixed a couple of other issues, but not these.
