InactiveCan someone please tell me if it is possible to get rid of the programme picture that shows through on the freeview play tv guide? I find it so hard to read as I have limited vision. All I want is for the background on the guide to be solid black or at least darker with no programme showing through. The programme movement behind the guide is very distracting.
Thank you!

InactivePress Pause before going to TV Guide.
Ideally Play, then pause on a dark / black image. !!
From an earlier thread ………..

I select either a neutral static background before using the EPG !
Or even better………
Still frame the background source !
Or….
Copy something black via USB and still frame that !!!!!

InactiveThanks very much for your help although I was hoping there was an option in the settings somewhere to turn off the background image on the guide as my ancient freeview recorder had that option so I assumed it would be available on any modern device. Seems like this so called modern technology has taken a backward step.

ModeratorWelcome to our Forum Darren

I have moved you post to this recent thread see post #2 for a suggestion.
Humax can’t please everybody. When the FVP was first launched there were complaints because the guide was not ‘transparent’

InactiveBy now Humax should have realised on all their boxes that they can please everyone by adding appropriate options. Simple, although seems difficult for them.

InactiveI cant see why Humax did not do the same as the 2000T on the programme guide, with the freeview channel in a little box, it so much a better layout and a lot easier to read to.

ParticipantThe 4000T has a similar arrangement to the old Foxsats which do give more screen space to the epg. The Foxsat though do have a user transparency option.
As with all makers with each new model a number of genuinely handy features get dropped. Over the years here’s a few that come to mind (Freeview and Freesat)
Picture In Picture for twin tuner models
Direct time code entry to jump to any point in a recording.
Bookmarks
Built In modulators.
User sortable options in the media list displays
User folders to organise recordings
Using the coloured buttons as handy shortcuts.
No direct media button.
Loss of scart outputs with RGB output.
Sure you can all think of others

InactiveI understand you can not please everyone, but myself and everyone that has come to my house and viewed the EPG all say the same thing, “Very hard to read quickly”. If you want to see what is on by flicking through the EPG it is hard work with the background changing state all the time. I know you say the answer is to find a dark background on one of the channels then pause it…. but really… every time you want to use the EPG.
Our eyes are drawn toward changing images not static ones, this is part of our evolution, this is why we make cursors flash on computer screens.

InactiveI’ve never ever had a problem with this, neither has anybody ever commented about it at home. I’ve never used the transparency settings on previous models except out of curiosity.
Having said that though the UI is a massive step backwards on the fvp4000t. I can’t think of a single aspect that is remotely better than previous models and everytime I use it I’m thinking Why? or How on earth?
There must be guidelines for ease of use and accessability for manufacturers. I echo Pollensa1946’s comment as above for software that Humax control:

InactiveI have to say the MIXED PICTURE / EPG readability issue is made worse as you move back from the TV. We have a 50 inch TV but are 5-6 meters back when viewing. If I move closer it becomes easier to read. The older Humax was not mixed and the EPG was a doddle to read from the same distance. If for no other reason having the choice to view unmixed would be beneficial to anyone who has distance between the TV and their viewing position.

InactiveI have to say that with a modern Samsung TV which has an excellent example of how an EPG should be presented (solid background, live channel in a separate window and program info displayed dynamically as you move the cursor around without having to press an OK button), I now use this to plan my viewing as I too can not cope with the Humax EPG with its moving background and lack of program info.
The Humax 9300T EPG was not disimilar to the current Samsung offering and it is difficult to understand why Humax have gone backwards with their latest offering.

InactiveIf only my FVP 4000T was like the excellent HDR Fox T2, just with the 3 turners, it would be GREAT

InactiveMy moan about the EPG is having to press OK every time one wishes to read what a program is about.
There could be room at bottom of EPG to show this program info.

InactiveI’ve never had a problem with this myself, but then I never watch live TV and still use a printed TV Guide to plan my viewing and just use the EPG to find the programmes I want to record. The ability to quickly choose the day of the week in the EPG is a great help doing this.
Having said that, another workaround If you want a black screen behind the EPG is to select one of the BBC RB channels before pressing the Guide button. They are 601-608 on mine and there are usually several not broadcasting anything.
