    Hi Guys

I have just joined the forum and hoping I can get some help on purchasing a new Humax.

My last PVR still is a Topfiels 5800 and still going strong but I want to get up to date with the PVR and TV.

I still have an old CRT set which is still going strong after nearly 18yrs!!!!!

It was my intention to buy an HDR 1100s-500gb this week and then the television after Xmas But I have a few questions if possible. Sorry if the questions are a bit basic but this is new ground for me.

When I phoned Humax in Belfast, the Guy on the other end was less than helpful and a bit off-had so I didn’t get any real answers.

1)What is the difference between Freesat and Freesat+ (Humax said nothing)

2)Can the Humax HDR1100s work with my existing TV via a single coaxal.

3)Can I use it without a dish until I get the new TV

    4) Do I need to buy a TV with freesat and UHD if it is with the Humax.

    5) What is the difference between the HDR-1100s freesat with freetime hd TV recorder and the HDR1000s/500gb Freesat+ with Freetime.

( Humax guy said he couldn’t see the latter on his webpage yet it is on mine)

    6) What sort of dish would you recommend?

Given what I have been reading about the unreliability and Humax attitude to their customers would I be better of buying something else. I for one do not want to have the agro outlined on some of these threads. The Toppy I have got has been nearly 100% reliable and when I did happen to have a problem with a signal they were very helpful.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

The box has to be connected to a dish (or more precisely the lnb on a dish)

For full working it needs two connections to the lnb, a quad 4 output lnb will feed two freesat+ pvrs.

You just need a HD TV with HDMI in, though these days most will have Freeview-HD tuners.

The HDR1000S is the first second generation Freesat+ box from Humax. It has the same user interface and software as the 1100S but has a front panel display and a scart socket that the 1100S lacks. It’s no longer in production. You might find a re-furbished one from Humax direct.

Depending on your location a Zone 1 or Zone 2 Sky minidish with a quad lnb will be just fine. The slightly larger zone 2 minidish will give a larger rain fade margin than the smaller dish.

Along with the other models a few of the Humax boxes have lost contact with the hard disk at around two years old. Humax have identified a faulty component, a new box should not have this component fitted.

    Welcome to our forum.
