InactiveHi There,
I hope someone can help me. I have had an HDR 1100s for about 5 months now, previously had Sky for years. I like the idea of non subscription tv and the promised functionality that this box offers. But it is so damned unreliable and glitchy it is driving me crackers!
It seems to have a mind of its own. It is a lottery whether On Demand works, sometimes it does and sometimes it says it’s unavailable. I had an issue where sometimes it decided it wasn’t going to produce any sound, however this hasn’t happened for a while. The other day it said the satellite signal was scrambled when I turned it on. It did this two days on the trot and both times I did a factory reset and it seems ok on that front…… for now! Oh, and it hates my Sonos Playbar. Something to do with Dolby something or other. After a lengthy phone call to Sonos and some button pressing it seems ok as long as I use the tv volume control and not the PVR one.
Is this to be expected and is there a general ‘fix’ for these issues? I have updated it to the latest software. It is connected via wifi, our network is fine and we have strong wifi coverage via an Apple AirPort Extreme which is in the same room. The main issue which is really frustrating is this business with the on demand….. My Wife is totally un-techy and is the main user of this and she’s giving me earache saying we should never have ditched Sky. I have spoken to Humax in the past but they are unhelpful and disinterested and very defensive of their product.
I hate to rant but I would like to just watch tv, not make a hobby out of getting the thing working properly. Sky was expensive but I didn’t get all this grief, it just worked most of the time. Unfortunately, although I bought it new in January I can’t find the receipt so I can’t return it for refund or exchange.
If anyone who knows about these things can offer some enlightenment on whether I have have a dodgy box, whether it’s settings or suggest a more reliable box I would be very grateful.
Many Thanks,
Hugh.

InactiveRight Hugh – I have the previous version the 1000s so may be able to assist. I also have the Sonos Playbar – in the Humax settings it should be set to Audio – Stereo and Optical – Stereo. I also have the TV’s internal speakers disabled. If you don’t do this then you will get audio from the TV and the Sonos – not desirable. It doesn’t really matter which remote I use for increasing/decreasing the volume both the TV and the Humax work.
The other issue is wifi. My setup relies on a wired network i.e. Ethernet (no wifi on my model). However, my neighbour has the wifi model and he was having similar issues with his. As an experiment I said to him to connect using Ethernet. He did, his issues immediately went away and he’s still using Ethernet to this day some 10 months later. It’s certainly worth a try.

InactiveThank you Faust….. I will look at the settings for the sound and change as you’ve suggested. I can’t remember what I ended up doing but I will check it. As for the wifi….. We’ve just finished doing up the front room and fitted a new floor, decorated etc and the TV isn’t on the wall where the router/phone socket is and I don’t really want a lead trailing across the floor so that might be a bit of a bugger. As it’s a wifi box I didn’t envisage this issue. Www have an Amazon Firestick so it’s not the end of the world but it bugs me when things don’t work as they should…… all a bit annoying.
Thank you for your help
Hugh.

Homeplug or Network switch. Better still if you can borrow either to save buying. We live in a modern build property get excellent wifi and yet I still find it can be flaky at times. I changed over most of our devices to a wired network – homeplugs and network switches and find it very steady and reliable.
