InactiveIn the past week my HDR-2000T has been losing sound intermittently while watching live TV. The loss is less than 1 second, and occurs randomly so it could be several times a minute or less frequently. I think it is doing it on all channels but I haven’t done a definitive check on this. The box is connected by HDMI to a Panasonic Viera 40CS520B TV. The TV does not suffer the sound losses if viewed via the in-built tuner, so I presume that it is not signal or transmitter related. I have rebooted the box but the problem remains. The box is on the latest firmware. Any ideas?

ParticipantCan you confirm that SD channels are also affected ?

InactiveYes I just tried it on channel 3 and 103 and it happened on both.

Do you get the same problem with S/PDIF audio output ?

InactiveI haven’t tested S/PDIF sound yet but will do and report back

InactiveMy TV does not have digital in so I have connected the Humax to the TV with the RCA connectors. So far there are no drop-outs.

ParticipantI was hoping you had a way of checking the S/Pdif. It’s looking as if there is some sort of bug with HDMI digital audio out. I was hoping that the S/Pdif was OK. If so there may be a workaround as S/Pdif inserters to HDMI are available. Have you tried other HDMI inputs on the TV and replacing the HDMI cable ?
Has your TV got DVI in ?

InactiveI have tried the other HDMI input and it may be better. However, I need to do this all logically when I have more time.

Has your TV got DVI in ? If so you can combine HDMI HD Video and analogue stereo audio.

InactiveMy TV only has DVI out. However, since connecting the red/white RCA plugs from Humax to TV the problem appears to have ceased.

I have never seen a TV with DVI out. What would it be used for, where would it get a DVI video source ?. DVI has the same video inputs as HDMI so has identical performance. All you need is a HDMI to DVI lead or a HDMI in to DVI out adaptor.
It surely must be a HD input but lacking digital audio. Invariably there is a 3.5mm stereo audio in associated with DVI sockets which would allow full HD video combined with stereo analogue audio.
How are you managing to get the TV to give you a High Definition video input and combine it with analogue audio ?

InactiveI think I am suffering from the placebo effect. My TV has Digital Sound out, not in, and now I realise that the RCA cables are having no effect because they are associated with the Component inputs and are not active when using the HDMI inputs. The fact is, the problem seems to have gone and possibly all the cable ins and outs may have improved a suspect connection.

That’s the sort of problem I like, a self fixing one. Out of interest does your TV actually have a DVI video in socket (often provided to connect a computer) ? It will look like the DVI port on HDTV pictured here.

InactiveThanks for your help, and the problem still seems to have disappeared. My TV does not have a DVI in socket, just 2 x HDMI, Scart and Component.

InactiveShort update, I bought a new cable and the problem has disappeared completely.
