Is there any way of changing when the darned thing does it’s update (that never works anyway?) I’ve been through all the settings and for the life of me, I can’t find it anywhere other than for it to actually do the update.
What update are you talking about and what is it that never works? I don’t think there is the setting you are looking for in any event.
I would take an image of your recording schedule before any updates take place as it makes it much easier to enter them in again after they have been wiped clean.

Methinks the auto software update (installation menu) and you are correct the timing cannot be changed by user.
