InactiveI’ve recently purchased hdr-1100s & contacted humax with my question but no response as yet.
When my box is in standby (red light on front), the box is initially silent. About every 20 minutes I hear the hard disk start up. After 2 or 3 mins it shuts down again and is silent. This cycle continues. No recordings are scheduled so is there a logical explanation why the disk needs to.spin up every 20 mins? I think the fan comes on too.
It’s in a bedroom so at night the noise is disturbing. I’ve tried the 2 different standby modes but same result.
My solution currently is to connect it to a timer so it stays shut down at night.
Thanks

ModeratorWelcome to our Forum

Are you per chance using the freesat app, if so this is the reason your unit boots so often – it is checking for any new timers you may have set via the app.

InactiveEvery five minutes or so it spins up and checks (I assume on the internet) what recordings you have set remotely.
When you first start using the app to remote record it warns you that you need to make sure the program won’t start for 30 mins. This is to give the box time to get the remote recording.

InactiveThanks for the reply. Never would have thought of that! That’s why the first day I had it was silent as I hadn’t used the app. Yes, I have installed the app and paired it to my box. Not really using it yet though!
How can I reverse this behaviour? I would rather not have the app if it’s forcing the box to spin up every 20 minutes!
Currently got box switched off on timer overnight but obviously not the best solution.
Thanks

ModeratorHow to get rid…
I factory reset the unit linked with app and then deleted the app, however not sure if just deleting the app will suffice.

InactiveWith my HB1000S I just unpaired the app and that stopped the spinning up. I can still use the app for listings, eyc

Inactivesurely something can be worked out? pairing the box allows remote record. the disk activity is a bug or an oversight?

There is no way of waking up a Humax pvr remotely. The requirement for a sub 0.5W sby power loading more or less precludes a wake on lan activity option. Only way is locally using infra red or a internal preset timer. Remote recording changes are stored on a server. They can only be accessed by the box waking up and contacting the server to check if any changes have been made. Personally I think the time interval should be user variable and capable of specifying a time overnight when all checks are suspended.

InactiveDon’t hold your breath, this problem has been known (and reported by me to Freesat) since shortly after the app was available. They, rudely, deleted my post, ignored it, subsequently banned me from the forum, and have done nothing since. The forum was eventually closed due to persistent user complaints which they clearly found irritable and embarrassing.
