InactiveI think the Humax HDR 1010s is super. However since June 2015 the little green icons have stopped showing (minor issue) and the box has stopped recognising my external HDD (annoying issue). I have carried out all the usual checks. Could all this be due to the recent update? In all other ways the box works perfectly.

What file system is on the hard drive. Need to know this before attempting to replicate.

InactiveThank you for your interest and quick response.
The file system is NTFS. The drive has worked for many months and I have made no changes. It contains a number of video and music files e.g. .mp3 and .vob.

Looking like you may have found another gremlin in the new software.
A 250GB USB 2.0 portable drive I have fails to work on the front port (it makes a ticking noise indicating lack of power). Adding a separate power source using a cable with a dual connector (the extra is only for power) and it works OK. It does work on the rear port unpowered and on the front ports on a pair of HDR FOX T2’s.
Can you try the same drive on the rear usb port of your box.

InactiveI suppose to save wasting your time I should have listed the checks I have done.
I have tried a number of different drives, both powered and not, including small pendrives. I have tried FAT32 and NTFS formatted drives. Both front and back USB sockets have been tried. All drives work in other media players and laptops etc.
Thanks again for your time.

I wonder how many of the non-working WiFi dongles were stuck in the front port.

InactiveNo wifi dongles have ever been used. This unit has wifi built in.

ModeratorPuzzled….
Just tried a WD portable 1TB passport HDD and that is working fine.
Edit: and a Seagate Slim working as well.
I should ad these are usb 3.0 HDD
Further edit:
This is odd, because a Segate Goflex (usb2.0) also works.

Apologies – I was straying away from the topic. The recent update has left some dongles not being recognized by the box. Occurred to me lack of power could do this. But it looks like my speculation was wrong.

ParticipantJust tried a couple more drives (all NTFS).
The one that failed to work on the front port was a Medion 250GB USB2.0
The other two I tested worked OK
Sonics 750GB USB 2.0 and WD 500GB USB3.0.
The Medion works fine on all the other kit I have tried.
Small media player, laptop, Asus Transformer Prime Android Tablet, TV, and Blu-ray player. Pretty sure it worked OK originally (I tend to use the Blu-ray player as it natively supports 1080p24 and has a direct HDMI cable to my AV receiver.
Does anyone know what the supported current output of the two ports are ?
EDIT
Toshiba 2TB USB 3.0 also works OK. Most odd

ModeratorSuggest roll back of software to previous version to check if it works then.

InactiveI have just formatted 8 pendrives to FAT32 – various makes, sizes usb2 and usb3. One has been recognised! So at least the USB ports are working. It seems this is not a known fault.

InactiveI think pen drives have always been something of an issue as every time a firmware update is available as a download lots of users report having issues with pen drives.
Some appear to work okay whilst others aren’t recognised. I have to say I have never had an issue with one myself.

InactiveThe loader, which handles firmware updates and also starts the boot process is very picky compared to the booted unit.

InactiveMy 500 GB Toshiba HDD worked faultlessly for months. Then, for no apparent reason, it was not recognised. I suspect this must be due to a software glitch. I will wait for the next update to see if it solves the problem. If it does not I will consider rolling back to the original software version. It is a shame that the Humax hdr1010s and its advertised features are not robust. Little idiosyncrasies do nothing for the manufacturer’s reputation. Luckily I have other ways of accessing my media files.
Thanks to everyone who offered advice and help, much appreciated.
