InactiveI am new to ths forum, and hope someone can help.
I have just had a satellite dish installed (I am in SW France), pointing at 28.2 East. Everything is fine – I have hundreds of channels – the only ones that don’t work are BBC HD 1-4. All the other UK terrestrial channels including the BBC non-HD ones. When I say BBC 1 HD doesn’t work, it didn’t work when it was installed yesterday morning, but in the afternoon afternoon it did, but he picture was poor and breaking up. But BBC2 HD just gives the message “The receiver is not receiving a signal or the signal is too weak”.
Also the receivier is showing GMT and hasnt advanced an hour for BST.
I’d be glad of any advice. Thanks

InactiveThe HD channels are the first to suffer from atmospheric interference. Yesterday it was noticeable in the evening.
What size dish and what is your postcode? I am at 32460 with a 1m dish.
The receiver time will sort itself out in due course. My guess is on startup you did not have a good signal from 28.5E frequency 11428H where the transponer currently is. It is due to move before the end of the month.
Edit: My weather forecast shows violent electrical storms with heavy rain tonight – Not a good evening for watching TV.

InactiveMany thanks, Repassac. Dish is 80 cm and we are at 47250. I believe we are at 28.2. Should we be at 28.5? I have tld the guy who installed and he said he will see if he can bring a signal amplifier which might help resolve it. does that make sense? to be honest now that I have found I can get all the channels not HD it doesn’t matter that much.
I am puzzled by your statement tgat “It is due to move before the end of the month”. Will I need to reset my satellite or anything?

InactiveThe separation between 28.2 and 2.5 is so small hey are treated as the same. 28.5 does use a different LNB skew (twist) – so normally a dish is aligned between the two.
The saterlite at 28.5 has reached the end of it’s life and will be replaced in about two weeks. The remaining channels like CBS Action (Can you get that?) will be relocated.
The new satellite Astra 2G will join the others but I have heard conflicting reports of it’s planned position.
The weather has not been the best the last few days, however on a new install I would want the HD channels.
The satellite change should be transparent to users.
I doubt a signal amplifier would solve anything – Signal quality is much more important than strength.
Could you get the HD channels last night – here after the very heavy rain stopped (7.2 mm in 90 mins) all was fine?

InactiveThanks so much. Yes, this morning all was working fine – even the bbc HD channels I couldn’t get previously, so I am happy!
The lip sync (sound to picture) isn’t perfect, which is a bit irritating, but that is a relatively minor issue.
The only remaining one is the fact that the time is on GMT, but you say that will eventualy resolve itself.
Thanks so much for your reassurance and advice.

InactiveRe: lip sync – Are you using an amp?
Is the problem just on certain channels perhaps some HD ones?

InactiveNoticed it on BBC2 HD. But not enough to make me want to do anything drastic about it.

InactiveIt’s the sound encoding for dolby digital 5.1. By default the sound is sent to the end device with the Picture via HDMI. If you are prepared to turn it off (So all is like on SD).
Change settings – Picture and Sound – Digital Audio Out
From Mutli-channel to Stereo
