Yes you can, a 2TB drive can easily be fitted. A simple screwdriver job (case screws under the stick on rubber feet).

Use a AV specified drive like the WD AV-GP range. You can’t transfer your existing recordings though.

Can we use a standard HDD?…….Are certain drives especially suitable for this purpose or is it all down to the way the HDD is formatted?

You can but it is likely to get unreliable after time as hard disk wear invokes data integrity checking. Look at the link re the low power and duty cycle requirements for AV drives. I and repassac fitted a 2TB WD-AVGP drive shortly after launch. So far mine has been very reliable and virtually silent.

I have a spare WD20-EARX 1.5tb……would this be suitable?

That’s a desktop drive. WD AV (Consumer Electronics) drive have a EURS or EURX model numbers. It will as already said work but is likely to cause issues eventually.

Note a 6Gps (SATA 6.0) drive may need a jumper on pins 5 and 6 to reduce transfer speed to 3Gbps.

Note because you can’t backup recordings on these models, long term reliability is much more important. Backing up a Foxsat-hdr is relatively simple.
