InactiveHello,
The internal drive in my HDR-T2 has died and I’d like to install a 2tb one. I have the custom firmware installed and I managed to get off all the recording with my desktop PC, but the drive is a goner.
I have seen the Seagate Pipeline suggested as a replacement, but I’ve had nothing but trouble with Seagate in the past.
So I would much rather use a WD Green, but are all of these compatible? There are several versions and I have read about problems with them spinning down. Would this one be good, for example.
Could anybody advise please?
Thank you very much, and Happy Easter ;o)

InactiveThe WD20EURX would be suitable, or WD20EURS (more preferable if you can find it) it’s a AV drive rather than a PC drive which are not designed for continuous operation. AV drives are also low power.
You may need a jumper on one of the drive pins to slow it down.
From memory pins 5-6. Not sure if this is necessary on the T2 (It is on their Satellite units) (Depends on the controller chipset Humax used).

InactiveThanks for the reply. So the WD20EZRX would not work?
Out of curiosity, what is the difference?

The only way you will find that out is by trying one.

The AV drives are mechanically similar but have modifications to the firmware for PVR usgae. To me one of the most significant is that they do far fewer retries when reading marginal sectors. So as the drive ages you are much less likely to get jerky playback as the drive tries multiple times to read a sector.

InactiveI use a 1TB 10EURX HDD in one of my HDRs. It is an AV drive and has worked flawlessly for nearly 2 years now. No bad sectors or what-have-you. Runs cool too. I guess if you can still get it, a 2TB would be same spec just bigger capacity.
