Had 9300T for years working perfectly on 16:9, now suddenly 16.9 setting produces picture stretched vertically so top and bottom of picture not accessible, so no “bottom line” text notes visible on news channels any more. Have Humax sent out a patch that would cause this?

No. Have you checked whether a button has been pressed on the TV remote to change the TV settings?
Thought of that but our TV doesn’t have a screen ratio change or zoom facility. Also, this hasn’t happened with our Sharp PVR – only the Humax.
Nobody out there with any further thoughts similar experiences then? 😥
Thank you for replying Barry. Connection to TV is via scart; I thought maybe some technological thing wrong with scart cable but same happens with different one.
Gosh – never knew it existed! Anyway, found it but it doesn’t do anything unless the preferences are set on a screen ratio of 4.3.
We normally used to set the screen ratio by the menu > preferences > screen ratio > 1:9 route, whereas the wide button seems to be linked to display format rather than screen ratio. On on our 9300 the display format menu is not accessible unless we first set the screen ratio on 4:3,( which we never did because the 4.3 picture was always too tall for our TV).
However thank you because fiddling around with all the permutations and combinations of all of the above plus the wide button led me to try > preferences > display format > “14:9 letterbox”, and this seems to shorten the screen vertically enough to see, for example, wording across the bottom of the BBC news screen,
but the space showing buttons to press right at the bottom of menu and teletext screens is still hidden.It seems that the preferences > screen ratio > 16:9 command has suddenly stopped working, and that none of the 3 display format options fit the full height of the picture into the screen.
Does the above throw any light on whether there’s anything that can be done to put it right?
If you are feeding a 16:9 telly then the 9300 should be set to output a 16:9 picture and further adjustments made on the telly although I note what you say in your post #3. I think you first need to confirm that the 9300 is outputting a 16:9 picture when set to 16:9. Try connecting it to another 16:9 telly and if that works correctly then you should start to suspect your telly, if not then the 9300 is at fault.
