InactiveI have a 1000S unit and have been trying to set up the media share facility with our Windows XP computer. The Humax and the PC are both hardwired to a Virgin “super Hub” router. I’ve selected media sharing in Windows Media Player but there’s no sign of the Humax unit in the “share my media to” dialogue box. Similarly the Humax displays a blank in the media sharing screen.
The Humax is seeing the internet connection as iPlayer and YouTube are functioning.
What have I missed?

ParticipantHave you right clicked on the folder in windows with your content in and elected to share the contents ? By default your folders are hidden from a DLNA client.

InactiveGraham,
I hadn’t, but have now. The Humax still doesn’t see other devices.
Any ideas why the WMP sharing doesn’t show the Humax in the device window?

TBH I never managed to get Media Player to work properly on my Windows 7 PC. There’s a wealth of other DLNA server software. If you happen to have Nero installed then it has a DLNA client built in.
You could also try XBMC

InactiveOne important thing is the networking settings – go to the network and sharing centre and check it is defined as a “Home” network.

Also in Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsNetwork and Sharing CenterAdvanced sharing settings make sure “media streaming” is ON
(also see sub menu).
All works fine with my HDR-1000S.

InactiveIt’s set up as a home network & in folder options sharing has been selected.
Windows Media Player still doesn’t show any icons for devices to share to, and the Humax 1000S can’t see a server.
New Pc with win 8 due in a few weeks; I wonder if that will be any better?

WMP will not show items for devices to share to but the 1000S should see it as a server.
You are looking in Humax > Media share ?
Does a smartphone (or any other device such as a smart TV) with a DLNA player see it?
What media types (file extensions) are being shared by WMP?
Do you have firewall software that could block access to WMP?

InactiveYes, in the Humax menu there’s nothing under media share.
Don’t have smart phone to try (!)
File types; trying to view .jpeg at present
I’ve just got the standard Windows firewall.

InactiveHi folks,
Is it possible to transfer files from my Windows 7 laptop to an external HDD attached to my Humax 1000s?

InactiveGoing on from my original post, I now have a new pc with Windows 8.1
I’ve loaded some sample photos into “My Pictures”, found the media sharing in Windows Media and can now see the picture folder and file list with preview images in the top right hand corner of the tv. “Slide show” appears in the top left but selecting OK or the play button has no effect. If I scroll down to a random file a rotating symbol appears indicating that the file is loading but I’ve given up waiting after a few minutes. Is there an issue with max file size over a network? I know there is for images read of a USB stick.
Any ideas?
