OK, this is a weird one. Over the last few days I’ve noticed my 1010s box makes a very quiet whining sound that you can hear when you either mute the sound or pause playback. At first I thought it was a car alarm outside in the distance but realised it was coming from the Humax box! I’m not mad, someone else has noticed it too 😉 As I said, it’s not loud, doesn’t do it all the time, but when it does it’s soooooooooooooo annoying. Does anyone have any ideas what ti could be? My thinking is perhaps it’s the mechanical components of the hard disk.

It could be the hard drive, mine makes a clicking/whining sound. It can be heard quite clearly, especially if the sound is muted.
It could be the hard drive, the fan, or even both.
OK, weird solution alert. I have a second generation Apple TV sitting on top of the Humax box, and it’s that that’s causing the noise. The Apple box isn’t powered up, just the act of having it on top of the Humax makes the noise (from the Humax box). Some rejigging is in order…..
