InactiveI’m based in Germany but two weeks ago bought a new HB-1000S from Amazon UK for my Mother back in England as like most people we have recently cancelled the SKY subscription after 25+ years. My brother-in-law back in the UK set-up the box and is very familiar with technology so I’m not doubting the problems I’ve been told about, listed below.
When the HB-1000S is working I’m told the picture is great and most of the time all is well. However apparently the following symptoms seem to have occurred:
A very long startup from Standby
I’ve been told this can take up to 4-5 mins and have read on the forums initial boot should be no more than maybe 30 secs (if this is correct)
Remote control freezing and not operating the box
After powering down the box by unplugging the power and then turning it on again seems to fix the issue, only for the same problem to occur maybe one day later.
Freetime – Long delay
Selecting a programme earlier in the day or a previous day takes ages for something to happen (10-15 mins). Once nothing happened for 30 mins and then they gave up
On Demand
Similar to Freetime, very long delays before something like BBC iPlayer to start and a programme can be selected
The box is connected to the internet via a pair of TP-Link AV200 Nano 200Mbps Powerline Adapters and the router is one floor up. The network signal is “good” with Quality 100% and Strength 90% on the bar indicators. The box has the latest software installed from January 2014 (Software Version UKSFAC 2.00.03 System ID 89C.7D10). All cables being used are the ones that were in the box, ie. HDMI, etc. The box itself is connected to a Samsung 32” LCD TV (I believe its a LE32B450 but I would need to double-check). No Factory Reset has been done as I did not think it was needed as it is brand new and was purchased only two weeks ago.
Could this just be a bad box?
I plan to send the above to Humax support but if anyone has any suggestions or input on the above issues I’d appreciate hearing some opinions! Thanks in advance

InactiveStartup.
The long startup is not typical and it should be < 1 min.
Remote control freezing and not operating the box.
This could be a HDMI-CEC problem – Disable Anynet+ on the TV and restart both devices to test.
On-Demand/freetime.
Not normal at all. Very surprised it did not time out.
Suggest you try a Factory reset to Default and if this does not help return the unit to supplier.

Thanks for the comments. I will ask my family to try disabling the Anynet+ function on the Samsung TV and try a Factory Reset to see if it does make a difference. Otherwise I guess we will return it as faulty to Amazon and try another HB-1000S box.

I have a HDR-1000S and a HB-1000S. The HB-1000S is a very good single tuner unit with recording possibilities (add you own external hard disk). Very happy with mine.
