I’ve had this machine since a couple of months after they were first launched. It’s generally an excellent unit, but why has the software not been updated to offer a better selection of Catch-Up TV?

I can get the BBC iPlayer quite satisfactorily – resolution is not great, but that’s the fault of my poor 2.5Mbps (on average) internet connection. The ITV player occasionally agrees to function but is frequently troublesome. However, there’s no 4OD or Demand 5.

Is there any chance of these being added to the unit’s capabilities any time soon?

They did release an update last year. It comes with new hardware too called the Freetime box. Sadly not free even to current Foxsat owners.

My current modus operandi for watching IPTV at home including catch up services it to use my Android tablet connected by HDMI to my main TV. Works a treat and does not rely on AV manufacturers to extract their digit to keep their myriad devices up to date.

(one catch up service not supported is Demand5 which is no big deal)

Nope this model has been discontinued for quite a while now, if you want more on demand feature on a Freesat box you’d need to purchase a freetime box.

Shucks! I was afraid that might be the case.

Gomezz – my wife’s Google Nexus 7.2 (Android) tablet doesn’t have an HDMI port. I have tried to connect it to the TV via USB, but when I change the TV’s input source to USB it refuses to see the tablet. Do you have any idea why this is?

Yes, The usb port is designed to connect the tablet to a PC to transfer files from a PC to the tablet.

You need a cable to connect the USB port to a source rather than a destination.

    eg

And the app to replay from a USB drive

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.homeysoft.nexususb.importer&hl=en_GB

To replay on a TV via HDMI, assuming it’s a 2013 model.

    https://www.google.co.uk/#q=miracast+nexus+7

SD recordings from a Foxsat-HDR can be replayed directly from a Foxsat-HDR using the Custom Firmware DLNA server.

Apparently to connect a Nexus 7 to HDMI on a TV you use something like this

Many thanks to you both for that useful information.

grahamlthompson – that Miracast system looks very promising for what my wife wants (although she’ll have to pay for it herself!)

gomezz – It looks as though that adapter gives her the choice of a wired contact at a cheaper price.

    Thanks again.

Doesn’t work with my Sony TV, the picture shows for a few seconds and then disappears.
