Hi Derek.
Well I convert all my media files to mp4 using xvid codec and I know that works. Hope this helps.

If the actual video is a standard resolution 576 lines (576i or 576p) or 1080 lines (1080i or 1080p), and standard framerate 24, 25 or 30 fps good chance it will work.
Install MediaInfo on your PC (Free) and open the file, select treeview and export the data to a text file. If it doesn’t work this data will help to find out why.

To watch my films I first highlight the film, then only press “OK” button, I have never tried using the play button in menu setting.
Like I said before, maybe you will need to change the format of the film using one of the free programs I have suggested. You say that would be to technical for you, but I am probably one of the least technical people you could find, but I managed it.

Free programs:-
1. Format Factory.
2. Video to Video.

Well I don’t understand why that happened!! I have been using that program for about 2 years. Does the program icon look like a real of film? on there website there is a choice of two downloads, install version and portable version, you want the portable version, it does not require installation and WILL NOT change any of your computers files or settings. Just download it and place in a folder on your desktop then double click and the program will run out of the folder, it will even run from a usb stick
I am not sure if posting direct links is allowed on here, otherwise I could give it you to make sure you went to the correct website. If you say that it messed up your computer then it sounds like you had the wrong program.
