InactiveHi
Just purchased Humax HDR-Fox T2
All installed and working /recording / playing back etc etc
Just one annoying prob but probably not caused by the FOX T2.
When i previously had sky box and i switched on the tv the tv Sony Bravia 32v2000 would default to its own freeview channels and if i pressed the sky button on the sky remote it would change to the sky programs etc…..
So now i have the PVR FOX T2…. When i switch on the tv it defaults as before to the Sony tv stations ….. what do i press to enable the Humax box………. press something on the Humax remote control or are there settings within Sony or settings within Humax to make it an automatic selection to go to the PVR ?
A work around at present is by going into the Sony settings and choosing external imputs and then choosing the Humax AV option ..
Any help would be appreciated
Cheers

ParticipantHi and welcome to the forum. The supplied remote is normally capable of controlling your tv by first pressing the white tv button. The codes and instructions for setting. this up for your tv are in the manual

InactiveHI Graham,
Thanks for the welcome.
Assume you mean the TV button next to the PVR button at the top of the remote ? and then enter the 3 digit code in respect of my Sony tv set ? There are 15 different codes shown in the manual for Sony , is it just a matter of trial and error which code is accepted ?
Are you then suggesting that once a code is accepted i just press the tv button on the handset and the tv will change to the freeview channels via Humuax and not the tv’s channels .
Cheers

InactiveDoes your TV not turn on to the last channel or AV input used? Many TV’s will do this, so if you use your HDR-FOX T2 for all of your normal TV viewing, your TV will come on with the correct AV input selected. This is certainly how my Samsung TV works.

InactiveHI,
Unfortunately not , the tv is a Sony Bravia 32v2000 and about 7 years old now but still a decent tv…….
It always defaults to its own tuner on start up .
When i had sky attached all i had to afterwards was hit the sky button on the sky handset and it would change to the sky box.
I now have to go into the sony settings and choose the AV for the humax box….. not that difficult but of course annoying.

InactiveThis nay be connected with the startup sequence.
Assuming the PVR and Sky unit are using the same connection method (I presume SCART?) then I would expect to power on the TV and then power on the T2 after a few secs. The TV should see the T2 come alive.

InactiveWas your Sky box connected via Scart? If you were to connect your HDR-FOX T2 via Scart, it would probably auto switch your TV, but the picture quality would be slightly inferior to that available via the preferred HDMI connection.

InactiveHI
I did have the sky box connected via HDMI and SCART Not sure what it worked on ?
When i removed the sky box and installed the hdr fox-t2 i just used the HDMI…… should i try Just the SCART or maybe both ?

InactiveYou could try just the Scart with the Humax, and see if it auto switches your TV to the correct input. Also, see if you can detect a slight reduction in picture quality.

There should be a marked reduction in quality when viewing a HD channel and the epg and other overlays will be markedly fuzzy as they wont be overlaid in HD.

InactiveHi
personally I’d stick with hdmi and I think most other people here would, however HD will still look better than SD over RGB Scart, it’d be worthwhile checking the settings on your Humax menu preferences video tv scart that it is set to RGB.
I’d leave both hdmi and Scart connected and wait for something like Downton or a previous good quality HD recording and switch between hdmi and Scart to see if it makes much difference.
The TV has a 1366 x 768 1080i resolution and will benefit from HD. People tend not to see the benefit of true HD 1920 x 1080p until a 40″ sized screen or bigger
The Sony is a quality product and you’ll probably find that if you put it side by side with a new same size cheap no-name 1920×1080 set then the Sony will still look and definitely sound better, even over Scart.
My partner’s older Panasonic wouldn’t auto switch to hdmi unless it was connected and tuned into an aerial. Now, on switch on, it will switch to tuner for a split second and then switch to hdmi, just need to leave an aerial attached even though the tuner is never used. Without the aerial it just sits there and needs to be physically switched/toggled to get hdmi eventually.
If it were my Sony, I’d be tempted to see if it worked the other way round, i.e. I’d disconnect the aerial (and scart and anything else except hdmi to Humax), factory reset it, run through the installation again and see if will default to hdmi with nothing else connected, just a thought.
If you can get hdmi to work properly, I’d check that the preferences audio on the Humax is set to stereo and not multi-channel, set the Sony volume pretty high and just use the Humax to control volume, channels etc.
The HDR-FoxT2 is a brilliant box, you’ve made a good choice there.

InactiveThanks for all the advice ….. I am no spring chicken myself and the Humax box i purchased for recording purposes only is to replace the Sky box my sister in law used 99% of the time watching freeview channels, and obviously wasting money. She now has nil cost and at 84 more than satisfied with the Humax ( using scart )
I have changed the scart to RGB (whatever that means ) and yes a picture certainly good enough considering the age of the Sony Bravia 32v2000 (6-7 years) .
Thanks for all the help from this forum……….. If it wasnt for the footy and test match cricket i would also kick Sky into touch and go down the same route.
Cheers
