The user manual suggests power down for 2 minutes but I still have no record icon in the menu option. I have sent an email but I don’t think they will reply soon. Any ideas?

How old is the Humax? Most likely explanation is that the hard drive has died.
I bought it in December 2012 via Amazon.

Contact Amazon and get it exchanged.
Humax have agreed to exchange by courier this week.
New unit arrived on time by courier. Very impressed by Humax service.
