My HDD has been damaged as Fan not operating.

    Fan is OK

Only getting 3.3 volts and should be 12 volts.

Can anyone give the fan supply circuit or which component needs replacing.

    Regards

The fan controller senses the temperature and can vary the fan speed from off -> 1/4 -> 1/2 -> 3/4 -> full. It normally starts around 45-50 deg. C (when measured at the HDD). Typically it will only run for a few minutes in the hour.

What makes you think that the HDD has been damaged by high temperature? What are the symptoms of your HDD problems?

Unable to access HDD, plugged into PC and not seen.

Ran HDT2 to wipe disk and only recovered 150gb (was a 500gb)

Installed another hd in the caddie and got very hot to touch.

Checked fan voltage and only 3.3 volts

Will check your info (at the moment wired to 12v so perm on)but slight noisy.

HDR in in an open space.

    Thank you

If a disk has not been designed for PVR use it may well run hot and will probably give poor performance (dropouts etc).

I am not familiar with HDT2 but there are tools within the custom firmware to fix disk problems without opening the box.

    Installed a replacement Seagate Pipeline HD2 500gb

Have reverted fan connection to original.

What component controls the fan voltage/speed please.

    thanks

No idea, but I think it would be better to check the disk’s SMART data for temperature readings and disk errors before opening the box or reaching for the soldering iron.
