    Can someone tell me what would happen if a programme using start/stop signals in the transmission of an over-running programme clash with 2 other programmes that are scheduled to start after the normal finish time of the late-running programme

    Not certain on your box, but the normal logic is to complete the first recording (ie preserve the end) at the expense of losing some content on the beginning of the follow up programme that requires the same tuner.
