    Hi,

I am a Newbee and so maybe not in the right place so please point me in the appropriate direction if you can. Thanks.

My problem is that I have a FoxT2 Freeview+ with the latest software.

I use a virginmedia hub and all lap tops tvs etc can see the network.

On forum advice, I purchased an Edimax EW-7711UAN 150Mbps Wireless 802.11n High Gain 3dBi USB Adapter. In a sense, it works fine as the wifi setting is not now greyed out. However, no networks show up when it is connected and even when entered manually, the humax will still not connect.

    Please advise. Thanks

What is the encryption setting on the Virgin Media Hub? Does the passphrase have any non alphanumeric characters in it?

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Whenever I have to connected to the hub with my laptop, smart tv etc, I have just selected it from the available network list and put in the password which is just lower case letters.

I have also tried the dongle in both the front and rear usb port. When I click on wifi, it does a 5 second search, nothing shows up – not even local networks from next door etc – and then it asks me to input manually. This I do, but still nothing.

You need to login to the router and find out what the security type is. I ask this because somebody reported a similar problem and the cause was that the router was offering more than one security type which was confusing the Humax.

Thanks, I will have a look at home tonight and post back later. I have a feeling it was something like ‘WEP2 AES’

OK that is very plausible but worth checking.

OK completely wrong. The radio button is set to:

    WPA-PSK(TKIP)+WPA2-PSK(AES)

Can you change it so that it is just WPA2-PSK(AES) which would be preferable or just WPA-PSK(TKIP) if some other devices on your network don’t support WPA2. If a previous poster is to be believed, it is the fact that router is offering two different encryption protocols that is confusing the Humax.

So which protocol did you choose? Does trying the alternate help? This may all be a red herring but somebody (but not necessarily with the same type of router) claimed it worked for them.

Hi, I’m no techie like some of these guys, but have you tested the Edimax in something else, like a laptop?

And word of encouragement, I’ve got the same box, and the same dongle and they do work together.

Another thought does your router have any kind of “handshaking” button, whereby it has to be pressed which then allows a few minutes to connect a new device?

By same box, I meant Humax box, BTW

    Hi

I’m having exactly the same problem with my new (delivered today) EW-7711UAn dongle on firmware V 1.0.29. I have had the box connected to the LAN for over 2 years with an excellent network connection, but have just moved the box and now need to connect via wifi. Could Edimax have changed the chipset as 2 users are unable to detect any wifi signal, and both within days of each other, whilst this problem doesn’t seem to exisit on older postings?

Clearly it is possible. Did it come with a driver disk? If so are the drivers the same as Edimax website (in which case it is probably the same chipset as previously) or different?
