ParticipantMine arrived first thing this morning. Well pleased, installation is a cinch and unbelivably fast. Unit response to remote control is very quick and it’s so quiet you have to put your ear next to it to tell it’s on.

Picture quality is very good so no complaints here and 5.1 audio as promised by hdmi.
UI is very different to Foxsat-hdr so it’s going to take a while to get used to it. First impressions are that it’s all pretty well instinctive (there’s not a lot of detail in the manual).
Of all the outstanding questions in the queries thread the one that most seem to be asking about is what external video playback capabilities it has so decided to play with this first (the ordinary stuff like recording/vod can wait till a little later
)Used USB 3.0 2TB drive formatted ntfs but only used in legacy 2.0 mode.
First thing I found that a blu-ray rip with a .m2ts file extension wasn’t recognised as a video file when played back from usb. Renaming to .ts worked so all files tested on USB had either a .ts or .mp4 extension
Streaming from Foxsat-hdr with custom firmware and Twonky Media 4.4.18
SD 576i and 1080i recorded without encryption both play with no problems.
Streaming from Laptop with content on 2TB usb drive using Twonky Media
Files from Foxsat (HD one with ac3 5.1 sound) no problem
1080p 24 Blu-ray at original bitrate ac3 5.1 OK
1920 x 1080 WMV downloaded from net played back in slow motion (same file plays OK by usb on HDR)
1920 x 1080 Movie trailer aac sound OK (that was a surprise)
1080p60 testclip from net plays OK
2TB drive connected by USB directly to HDR-1000s
All files playback perfectly
Reckon Humax have a big hit on their hands

InactiveExcellent, thanks for the info Graham.
One thing – and this may sound strange, but does it allow you to copy media files from your external USB HDD to the internal drive?

ParticipantMore playing

Skipping in the epg
In the epg +- 2 hrs is the key with the chapter skip icon and +/- 24hrs is the fast forward key. (The reverse of a Foxsat-hdr for users used to this pvr). Both under the search button
Favourites in the epg
Press settings Choose Freesat Channels/Favourite channels OK to Edit Favourite Channels.
Click OK to select a few
Press TV Guide Then List UP OK. Et Voila a proper favourites restricted epg

Brilliant.

ModeratorYou can alao add/remove channels from Favourites list by highlighting the channel icon in guide and pressing OK.
I have started to populate the FAQ section.

Inactive…oh and I know you’re still just getting set up (so no rush!) but they haven’t hidden an FTP server in there (like the HDR-FOX_T2) have they?

ParticipantTook me a while because the file I tried to copy are in a folder, you get prompts at the root level but not in folders.
Copying a file from usb
Home/Humax/Video
USB1 find your files and press red to select one or more, green to select all (both are toggles). Press blue to initiate copy. It looks as if you can copy from one usb to another if you have more than 1 connected (not tried this though
)

ParticipantFirst recordings set over lunchtime recorded with no problems. It ain’t half quiet
It’s about 3ft from my left ear, never heard a thing. No idea if there’s a fan and if there is whether it was running or not. Based on experience so far ideal box for bedroom or bedsit.

InactiveUp and running now Graham – what a great picture with very crisp menus. The remote angle of reception is good – a great improvment over the Foxsat.

)Thanks Graham, looks like it does all of what I need – so any enhancements will be a bonus.

ParticipantJust realised something that I did without even giving it a thought is in fact quite significant

I was able to delete a file on a USB attached NTFS drive. Ergo it will read and write to NTFS

afaik the very first Humax pvr (without modified firmware) to both read and write to NTFS. Hopefully this bodes well for future export capability (no more messing with EXT3
).

InactiveHi Guys,
2 quick questions:
1) Do all the boxes come with the CI slot uncovered as I would have expected a dust cover but mine came without?
2) I know you can copy from a USB to the internal HDD but can you move TV recordings from the internal to a USB?
Cheers Mandlebrot

No cover on mine
No export of any description yet, there’s a question in the Questions/Queries thread about usb. Barry hasn’t been able to answer it yet. Recommend you read the thread it will answer a lot of questions
