InactiveHello,
Today I put a new 1TB Hard drive in my Foxsat-HDR
When I booted the Foxsat it said the HD needed formatting so I started the format and over 5 hours later it is still formatting and no progress bar.
How long should it normally take to format a 1TB HD on the Foxsat?
I did format the hd as ext3 using my pc prior to putting it in the foxsat and it took less than an hour.
Thanks

ParticipantIt normally takes about 10- 15 minutes. Why your PC should take an hour to format 1 TB is in itself suspicious unless it’s a very slow one,
What make and model of HDD is it ?
What version of sata is it ?
Is it a low speed low power drive designed for AV use or for a PC with data integrity checking built in that can request data packets from the source be re-sent ?

Inactiveits an Hitachi JPT39C sata 3.0, although its a 2010 model its unused as new. it formats ntfs in under a minute but takes an hour to format ext3 with easus partition manager on windows. I have a bunch of other hard drives to try. if this is not compatible which type would you recommend? thanks

I am not a FOXSAT expert but I thought SATA III drives needed to be set to SATA II mode for use in the FOXSAT; on some drives this is done with jumpers and on others by a software utility.

Correct. On WD drives it needs a jumper on pins 5 & 6.
