As usual many new products are announced at major C.E. exhibitions like CES. This time Humax have announced a new set-top box for the US cable market. While this is a different market and would require a different broadcom chipsets, designs and user requirements tend to be similar to that for all set-top box users such as us freesat and freeview users. Press release:

    Welcome to HUMAX [Global Website]

With the use of the BCM7425 in Humax boxes, will we ever see a hybrid PVR with twin tuners for satellite and twin tuners for terrestrial? (Quad tuners in all.)

Any news of an upgrade for the FOXSAT-HDR? I’m desperate for a Freesat PVR that is a bit like or better than the equivalent Freeview HDR-FOX T2…

What is it about the Fox T2 which you find critically lacking in the Foxsat HDR?

    I’m glad you asked ;)

    1. Media playback (lack of)

    2. Lack of DLNA support

    3. Better media/file management

    4. Timers in non-freesat mode

    5. Improved speed/response of interface (especially in filemanager)

There are others… I know one or two can be overcome by installing raydon’s firmware, but hey, we need Humax to bring modern hardware to the satellite platform… (facilities that some current satellite PVRs enjoy, i.e. those boxes for the continent.)
