My wife and me prefer to copy to DVD, I have personally found that USB sticks will not play on some freeview devices or computers, while DVDs will play on nearly all players. Plus some USB sticks will not work for some unknown reason. I have heard they start to degrade after 10 years, while a DVD can last for up to 100 years, plus they are easy to lose as I have lost a few.

My friend is a computer wizz, and he got the 2000T and he said some USB sticks will not work even though he formatted them to FAT32, I have not tried to use one myself on my 2000T though.

With the BT 2110 youview box, you cant even record to USB, but my Wife loves it anyway.

I have to say I haven’t experienced any issues with thumb drives on either of my Humax boxes. Why does you wife like the BT 2110 so much, or at least in preference to your other Humax?

Catch up services are a lot better on the BT 2110 youview box,you get the same as a PC, I don’t know what the Humax’s own version is like. As we are a older couple she likes to watch again some the old stuff from ITV 3, as we get a lot of power cuts round here it comes in handy. The trouble with the 4000T Freeview play box, is that the catch up services like ALL 4 and Demand 5/MY5 is limited and not all programs are available due to copy rights I suppose.

Also we have different tastes in some programs. These boxes work well, a lot better than PC or tablet, certain times of the day it runs so slow probably due a lot of users in the area, so it makes catch up impossible, but it don’t affect the 4000T or the Youview box. Plus the picture quality is a lot better than from the PC via HDMI, plus it leaves the hard drives free for something like a good film or channels that’s not available on catch up services on the freeview platform.

Just bought a new HDR2000T to replace a trusted and super reliable Alba (!!!) ALDTR160 which does everything except HD and am very disappointed to see I am suffering a seemingly well known problem whereby the TV signal pixellates and eventually disappears for ages whilst the box starts up…..I find this appalling and totally un-acceptable from such a well known brand as Humax.

Am presently debating returning it for something else ????

Have you checked that the power saving option is displayed as ‘Off’?

My HDR-2000T does not suffer from this issue on any version of software when the power saving option is shows as ‘Off’ on the Power Management menu.

Our 2000T makes our TV pixelate a bit for about 5 seconds when you take it out of standby even though the power save mode is turned off. And some times when it gets ready to record as well. The 4000T freeview play box is worse, it cuts the signal off for about 10 seconds even thought the power save is off, but its OK when recording in standby.

The thing to do for about £3 is to buy a splitter that seem to work.

Thanks for the prompt responses…. Yes, power saving is off (no signal at all when the box is off otherwise).

Although a good workaround I don’t see why I should have to buy / install a splitter that will also reduce the signal by 50 % to cure a known problem…..I have already split the signal once from an adjacent room.

Signal is 80% strength, 100% quality and I am

using the highest quality double screened coax throughout with soldered brass plugs

Unless your signal is very marginal a splitter will have zero effect on picture quality and will actually save you money in reduced electricity bills.

Thanks Graham but I think a reduction of 10Watts power consumption is hardly going to be noticed.

Sad fact is the product is not working as it should – it would not have been designed to do this – I don’t want to return / refund it as it otherwise ticks all the right boxes.

Based on 16hrs a day approx 60 extra units/annum. The splitter will pay for itself in less than 12 months. Could even improve your pictures, the more sensitive Humax tuners are prone to signal overload and often require attenuation in high signal strength locations.

yep, well aware of all problems caused by DTTV hence the comment about signal strength and all cabling from aerial to boxes in WF100 double + foil screened cable

Splitters are OK if your in a strong signal area, But I bought 2 to try and they dropped my signal down from 80% to 50% which caused my TV to pixelate and lose channels , so I rang an aerial guy up and he said if this happens try a twin aerial booster for using on a 2 TV set up from one aerial, which I got from Argos now my set up works great.

Basically its just trial and error which ever works for you and the area you live in.

OK, so I installed a DECENT splitter which I happened to have – i.e. a metal cased one rather than the cheapo plastic junk and it dropped the signal from 80 to 72% which is acceptable (DTTV should be OK down to around 40%).

With DTTV however the MOST IMPORTANT criteria is the quality, this has remained at 100% and the pixellation issues have obviously ceased as the RF loopthrough is no longer there…. but that’s hardly the point….it shouldn’t do it in the first place.

Note to bill63…..do NOT aim for 100% signal strength (80% is the ideal), as Graham ponted out a digital signal overload will send the receiver into error and may even shut it down completely returning a no signal message !

It shouldn’t but no one said life is perfect.
