InactiveTry this, it always worked for me in the past on the HDR-FOX. Take an empty USB stick (or one whose contents you don’t want to keep) and format it in FAT 32 on a windows PC: do a full format. Copy the unzipped update file (HDF) to the root of the USB stick and try again.

InactiveOne of the sticks was prepared in exactly the way you describe. Didn’t help.
Thanks for the thought, though.

Inactivechrisdaniels it’s about the only thing I didn’t mention in my post so in reply yes, the file is unzipped and placed directly in the root of the USB drive.
Barry I’m sure I’ve tried every permutation there is from touching to tapping to holding to swearing at the channel down button on power up but still nothing and I see raichea is having exactly the same problem trying to update.
Now I see pilgrim42 has mentioned a marked increase in sensitivity, I could certainly do without that.

ParticipantHow long was your box in sby before trying to update ?

InactiveI have tried endless times to update the software and the f*****g thing keeps crashing saying E016 network error and then reboots. Refuses to work.

Inactive@grahamlthompson. If that question was to me, the box was in standby all night.
What does a successful USB upgrade look like? My box does this each time it fails to recognise the upgrade:
1. Plug in power
2. Sits there for a few seconds
3. Blue light comes on
4. Normal Humax screen appears
5. Blank screen
6. Light turns red as disk starts to make noise
7. Just sits there until I try it again
Where does a successful upgrade depart from this?

ParticipantNot seen a HDR2000T, but based on all the other models you get a screen with a progress bar that initially says downloading then changes to installing. The access light on the stick should also be lit as the box reads the .hdf file.

InactiveHad no trouble updating with a 0.5GB memory stick formatted FAT32 with just the update file in root. Just followed the instructions.
Disconnected power
Plugged in stick in front USB
Powered back up pressing (down arrow) button.
Screen appears stating old version and new version and progress of file transfer.
At 100% message comes up asking to be put into stand-by.
After that take out of standby and use normally.
I was releaved to see that recording shedule was unaffected (as Barry stated)
Also noticed signal strength levels on all Muxes appear higher than before, more reasonable considering all show 100% quality.
I am in dilema regarding standby mode as I have had the box so long and all of us have got used to firing it up to watch TV.
My remaining gripe is no itv player etc on Humax web portal.

InactiveI’ve tried several sticks now:
1GB, 8GB, 32GB
…then, following @rocksteady’s post, I hunted out an old 256MB stick
No change

This is so crap! I’m beginning to worry how the power jack is going to stand up to the constant unplugging/plugging – I can’t easily get to the mains plug.

ParticipantWhy are you having to remove the power ? The update should work from normal standby.

Why are you having to remove the power ? The update should work from normal standby.
Update Instructions
– Power OFF the product by removing the mains lead from the rear, or switching off at the power socket
– Download the software and save on a USB Pen*
– Make sure the filename is hdr2000t_upgrade.hdf
– Insert the USB Pen to the front or rear USB port on the product
– Power ON the product
– Immediately press (or continually tap) the channel down button on the front “V”
– The download should start and the download progress should appear on the TV set; allow 5 minutes for the update to complete.
– When the update is complete “Download Successful will appear on the TV.
– Remove USB Pen and press the standby button.
Warning: During the update process DO NOT power off the product.

InactiveThe instructions at the link I received in an email say to do that. I did try without a couple of times but with no difference.
Now the good news! I finally got the upgrade to take. The problem was mainly my fault 😳 . The clue was in my first post. The link I described was to the 1800 firmware… I assumed that it was right and no-one corrected me. A separate link to the 2000 firmware was further down the same note… I was slightly puzzled that Humax had sent me a note about the 1800, but there you go.
Doh! I hate it when that happens (not too often, fortunately!). I’m holding my hands up in case it helps someone else… maybe samkydd had the same problem??

InactiveJust for info… the 1800 and 2000 .hdf files are identical apart from their names.

ParticipantFirst Humax box I have ever heard of that needs the box to be disconnected from the mains to update the software. I wonder what’s different about the HDR2000T. They do need to be in full sby first though, so at a guess the power off is simply to ensure the box is in full sby. It must be quite awkward to power up the box if you have to push in the power connector and immediately press the channel down button.
Going on experience with other Humax boxes after a power down the box will wake up simply to restart the clock and then shut down again. I would let it do this and then try the update process using the front panel power button.

ModeratorYou do not actually have disconnect mains power, you can do it from standby, touch the on button and immediately touch the channel down and keep touching until update message appears.
However I and others found this to be a bit hit and miss.
