No sound when playing back recordings or watching tv through the humax box this happen quite frequent, sound on the samsung tv ok. To get sound back on the box sometimes putting the box in standby clears the problem or if no success powering the box down for a couple of minutes brings back sound. I tried different way today I cancelled on the schedule the next recording which was due to start in about 15 minutes, put the box into standby brought the box out of standby sound now ok. Doing it this way I did’nt have to reschedule all my recordings just the one I had cancelled. I have noticed there is lots of sound problems on the forum, most with this box is humax going to offer some advice or is it a software problem.

Since my post of the 15th I have resolved the problem by connecting the TV and Humax by a SCART lead and not the HDMI cable. Working fine now – fingers crossed!

If you’re going to go down the route of Scart, then it might be better to try out RCA cables for the sound and HDMI for the video. I suffered terribly from this sound issue for the first few days when I got my box and connected it to my Sony TV, but since using RCA cables for audio to that TV, I haven’t had the issue return since (two months ago). Sure, it’s only for stereo (not 5.1), but seeing that you’re using Scart, then that issue is moot.

If your TV has RCA connections for a corresponding HDMI port and that the TV doesn’t default to HDMI sound when you have the RCA wires connected, then that would be a better bet than Scart if you can get it to work that way.

I should have said I have reset the box 2 times retune etc, but no improvement. I Think the answer lies with box powering up before recording exactly what is happening is beyond me,but using a scart lead is not the real answer, that is a real backward step. I should say that altering the power setting to no pass through in standby in my case does reduce the number of times it occurs.

A scart lead may be ‘a backward step’ but it has worked and I now no longer get phone calls from my 93 year old mother when she can’t get any sound!Reading all these posts it seems that everyone is having to ‘fiddle’ with their box to get it to work. As another member said, Humax should have sorted this issue out. I am going to leave it with the scart lead in place for as long as it is ok. As they said in John Lewis the machine has a 2 year guarantee and if it plays up again it will go back.

I have encountered a similar problem when connected to a LG TV via HDMI

It appears to happen if you start the ‘box’ with the TV in standby mode. However, it does not always cause a problem, so I suspect that it is a timing issue in the negotiation phase of the HDMI connection (if you turn the TV on within a few seconds of starting the ‘box’ it seems to work ok).

When the sound does fail it only seems to be necessary to power cycle the ‘box’ (turn it off (for about 10 seconds) and on at the mains), leaving the TV switched on

As reported previously I had a similar problem. My 2000T did not like the fact I was using a HDMI hub, although that being said, provided I switched on the TV before the 2000T there was never an issue. I think this definitely does confirm the theory that this is a Handshake issue with the Humax. Funnily enough my Humax Freesat box is not affected.

Once I connected the 2000T to the TVs HDMI port directly (Panasonic TV, Viera Link off) the problem has been cured. It now makes no difference which device is started first, audio is always present.

Thanks! Having read all the above posts I now realise that my spanking new Sony W series will NEVER ‘talk’ to my Humax! I have just had the sound issue as well and resolved it by unplugging the Humax etc. Amazing that when I used SCART connections my big old Sony lump used to auto switch connections when the devices were powered up. HDMI? hmmm
