😳
Thanks.
More here.

Note the quote
As a result, DVB-T2 can offer a much higher data rate than DVB-T OR a much more robust signal. For comparison, the two bottom rows show the maximum data rate at a fixed C/N ratio and the required C/N ratio at a fixed (useful) data rate.

InactiveSorry, which quote?
This is very interesting. If the UK configuration favours data rate over robustness of signal, that means the lower power of COM7 and COM8, compared to the DVB-T1 MUXes, could be more significant than at first appears?

The bit about higher data rate or more robust signal was a copy and paste from the link.
Incidentally a similar situation exists with satellite DVB-S2 sources. In difficult areas the HD broadcasts are harder to receive (also down to the fec used).

InactiveThanks for the explanation.. Food for thought.

InactiveGiven that’s there’s very little of value on COM7 and COM8 apart from the BBC channels, it seems silly to have compromised their reception by choosing capacity over robustness. COM8 is still mostly empty, no-one wants to broadcast on them (probably due to the combination of DVB-T2 and coverage area meaning probably less than half the population can watch them).

InactiveAs far as I can surmise it seems to be when the signal “goes” it goes for everyone who’s expressed issues here regardless of location or other local factors and when it reappears it reappears for everyone…

That’s what I’ve picked up from this thread, too. My first incident was in September last year and I could find no record of anyone else having the same problem. The more recent outages reported in this thread, however, have matched my own exactly as far as I can tell.

InactiveI haven’t visited this thread for a while (having kicked it off back in April), but wanted to report that COM7 channels are back for me. Must have come back sometime in the last week or so. FYI I’m in the Reading area.

InactiveThey came back in the last day or so. I check most days. 75% signal as usual, but who knows for how long.

InactiveI last checked Monday or Tuesday and nothing then. Will check tonight

InactiveBack for me, too, this morning. At least we’re all consistent.
I’d have thought there was enough information for Humax to send a tech to some conveniently located customer to find out what the heck is going on. Even if it’s not for our benefit, it must be useful for Humax to understand a weakness in their design to improve future product development.

InactiveI have had this issue with Humax Support about COM7 but they say its a signal problem and not their software in their tuners, so they are not going to investigate in to it.
