Luke has reported at Hummy.tv (quote from digitalspy) that Hughes have withdrawn the FVP-4000T from sale. Apparently the model has not been officially released so they have had to stop selling them. I can’t now find any units for sale online.

Yes that was my post over on Digital Spy.

I spoke to Hughes and that is what they told me.

I then popped to my local store and thankfully they hadn’t been told and I was able to purchase the last one in stock.

Well I picked one up today from my local Hughes and I can see why they have decided not to officially launch the product yet. It doesn’t seem ready.

This is a total guess….still awaiting final certification from DUK, freeview et al.

    Quote:
From the moment you start using it, it certainly seems a bit slow. Not as responsive as my Humax Fox HDR T2.

I would agree, to a certain extent, certainly getting programme synopsis from guide appears to be slow – 4/5 seconds. My first impression of the UI was yea gods who designed this – some will like it some will not.

    Quote:
The only scroll back on demand channels that work are BBC, nothing at all from ITV, 4 or 5 although iPlayer, All 4, ITV Player and 5od all appear in the separate ‘apps’ section of the box.

Clarification….backwards guide data is present for itv,4, and 5. There are some direct links to associated players for SD channels but not HD channels.

Picture 18 – notice the small play icon, which is the indicator that programme is available to stream (on BBC channels) but not the rest.

    Quote:
The screen is occasionally flicking on and off, can’t work out why but sometimes it cuts out for a second when changing channel or navigating the menus.

Have not witnessed this myself, but this is the first Humax product not to ‘play nicely’ with my Philips TV via HDMI eg on boot I see no Humax splash screens before picture appears.

    Quote:
You get proper channel logos in the guide (downloaded from the web) and thumbnail photos on the now and next part, which is the default view when pressing the guide button. You then need to press right to see a ‘normal’ view of the guide.

If only the BBC are going to support the thumbnails on now/next then I would prefer they get rid, no point.

Also do not like the skip to next day default of skipping to midday, I would prefer 24 hour skip.

    Quote:
The only thing that is annoying is that there is no dedicated ‘media’ or ‘recordings’ button, you have to go to ‘home’ and then scroll to the ‘recordings’ section to see what you’ve recorded.

Concur, and I think the default when pressing home should be recordings not on demand.

    Quote:
I won’t be swapping out my current recorder yet, I am assuming a firmware update is imminent and will check again after that.

We now know version 1.00.59 is available for IP download, units should download during initial set up as long as network connection is present.

Many thanks for uploading screen grabs.

08/10 – Note I have edited some of my comments.

So that was an advert during Emmerdale last Friday, I must watch the adverts in future rather than just skipping through them. 😆

Perhaps the team that designed the Freesat/Freetime UI, since that is most peoples first impression of that.

    Thanks for the link, Barry.

I still think it’s bizarre. Trying to depict FTA TV, which has totally dominated the UK media scene for the past 20 years, as some kind of oppressed victim just doesn’t do it for me. Not that I don’t support FTA TV, especially PSB TV – I do, but I use pay services too, and I would bet that’s the case for many others. So what are we – Nazi sympathizers?

Freeview has lost its dominant position as a result of complex and perhaps inevitable economic, political, and technological changes. Trying to boil it all down to cheesy goose-stepping flat-screens is just a waste of an ad budget IMO.

#62 – Clarification re backwards epg.

There is data and therefore direct links to relevant players for itv, chan4, SD channels.

I think its kind of ironic that in order to get Freeview Play, you need to “Conform & Upgrade”, which is a part of the message they are portraying as bad.. Don’t think they really thought it through..

Has anyone tested ftp transfers? How many files are there for each recording. Are standard def. recordings transferred by ftp unencrypted? Are these recordings OD encrypted and then decrypted when they are transferred?

3 files – hjm, nts, ts

I’ll have to test the transfer further…when I have a mo.

My earlier post I transferred a short recording from citv and playback via vlc was possible, just tried again with a cbbc short recording and it won’t play.

and now I am having difficulty getting my recordings to show via ftp at all.

    File transfer.

Unit has Samba server on board. This can be enabled/disabled/status checked from the network menu.

With Samba enabled the FVP 4000T will appear as a network device on PC:

    [attachment=41167,563]

Contents as listed below, note SD recordings appear with an mpeg icon, and radio as mp3. These can be dragged/dropped to your PC and played with usual players.

    [attachment=41167,564]

If you use ftp to transfer then all recordings remain encrypted.
