I would suggest anyone invited reads the disclaimer at the foot of the email.

That’s just a standard email disclaimer and I can’t understand why it would have any relevance to discussion about the results of the trial itself. :?:

Maybe a standard disclaimer but I would take that to mean not even disclosing participation in the trial…

I’m not going to continue any further with this…

There will be no discussion of the trial in myhumax.org open Forum….end of.

The problem as I see it is that once it is known that someone is in the trial it is inevitable that anything we read that they subsequently post will be interpreted as being influenced by their possible inside knowledge. Reading between the lines could result in incorrect rumours and then escalating unwarranted poor publicity for the next software release.

The mitigation for that would not be to allow trialist open communication. There are a lot of posts were the operator of a newly acquired PVR has miss-reported the details about the PVR and adding their emotive slant to something that is just not the situation. That you could easily also occur with a trialist and again generate unwarranted poor publicity for the next software release.

    Simple.

If member(s) want to divulge that they have been accepted so be it, however there is to be no discussion of the trial software in open forum.

Presumably that is a decision of the Forum alone?

I can’t see any such restriction in the trial details emailed to me by Humax yesterday.

    Richard

A restriction is a restriction whatever the source.

A restriction imposed by Barry is a restriction imposed by Barry.

A restriction imposed by Humax is a restriction imposed by Humax.

Two totally different types of restriction.

This debate all started from me saying that I’ve been accepted on the trial, and it’s getting a bit boring now. I’m deactivating this account and will discuss my trial experience on another forum which is less like a dictatorship and more of a community of like minded Humax users. Incidentally I had emailed the person who’d emailed me to say I’d been accepted and asked if I was able to discuss my experiences on this particular forum and I was told it was ok.

    Goodbye.

Expect to be removed from the trial. if there is any justice 😳

You clearly do not get this. Your observations like any such trial should be private. You cannot expect such to be freely available. Clearly you should not be included so goodbye. It’s inevitable you will have ideas that others disagree with. This forum is not available for discussion for pre final discussions on the outcome of whatever the final outcome is.

Of course you can disagree with the final outcome, but revealing your involvement in the final outcome is and should not be revealed.

So me revealing that I’m in the trial AND getting email confirmation that I’m allowed to discuss this in this specific forum is tantamount to being kicked off the trial?

I refer you to Barry’s post. You will not be allowed to post confidential information exchanged in this forum in the open forum. If you think you are, think again. In your words, Get Real :-)

As he said (after the horse has bolted), any information you may get is not to be posted in other than than whatever arrangements are made to provide access to others on the same trial.

    I await Barry’s comments with interest :-)

This is not an opportunity to express your opinions on a soapbox.

In my humble opinion I do not think you have the required attitude to be a suitable candidate for any sort of beta tester.

I would not make a good tester based on the fact that I acknowledged I have been accepted on the trial and also based on the fact I have an email saying I can discuss it in this forum. I have no intention of discussing it as we’ve been told not to. However, arguing that I shouldn’t beta test based on the above is your own opinion which I don’t agree with.

No comment. I leave it up to Barry to comment on your defamatory slur. For many years he has provided a direct connection to Humax technical support. This forum has always been the best source of the first and most reliable source of of all things Humax.

there is no defamatory slur – see my post. However, the dictatorial manner that some mods in this forum present themselves has driven people away to other friendlier forums.

Just saying. It seems that people are frightened to post anything for fear of upsetting the mods. I mean, do I now need permission to breath whilst I write this or permission to make a cup of tea?

A real chance to improve this box seems to have been diverted by classic forum bickering.

I’ve already sold my box as I couldn’t cope with it any more, but if forumites really can help to substantially improve the UI, then I might have to buy another one!

I have never been afraid to post and I sometimes disagree with Barry. I think it is perfectly reasonable that the people doing the work to run the Forum (and with the inside contacts) set a policy that makes them feel comfortable. If other people don’t like the policy then, as you say, other forums are available.
