Ok so you are seeing the DIAL server from the Humax but not the DMS server. In Settings, Server settings, what are the active hours and the server status? Could this be another firewall issue?

Ah. That server was off. Now that it’s on, I also see 2 entries in ‘Media Devices’:

    FVP-5000T DMR 10.0.0.79

    FVP-5000T DMS 10.0.0.79

I can now, for example, view the Humax content on a PC. Cool!

Given a suitable network connected Smart TV in another room, would I thus be able to watch Humax content on it??

    Excellent.

    Yup but only SD.

I think you should be able to watch SD content if the Smart TV has a DLNA client. To watch HD content from the FVP then you would need another FVP.

So obvious I hadn’t thought of it!

But why allow you to copy from usb into them but not from ftp? Not sure I understand the logic!

Tried turning the Samba server on but no sign of it appears on my network…

Unusually if I remember correctly the box supports NTFS so files larger than 4GB are OK.

Incidentally from memory If I remember correctly from one of Barrys posts. You can add a usb splitter, and connect a disc with movies and another with photos and music and switch the source between them using the box remote.

I have a Samsung MU6120 TV, and I can watch HD recordings from my FVP4000T over the network.

Thanks, interesting observation. I think that must mean it has support for the DTCP-IP protocol that is used to protect HD recordings by the Humax. It used to be quite rare but is obviously becoming more common.

Edit. When researching this I see you have posted about this previously and I had completely forgotten; my apologies. A bit of googling suggests some modern Panasonic TVs also support DTCP-IP. Any other makes and models of TV with DTCP-IP support?
