killall sleep seemed to work …

AND THE * DELETING… HAS GONE!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I’ll check that it can record, pause live TV etc. and post back here, and also write and post a quick summary of what I had to do in case it will help others.

Quick summary of the steps taken to fix the * Deleting… problem

Overview: Basically a power failure while it was deleting caused the Humax box to think it was always deleting and so it could not record, pause live TV or delete anything else. To fix this the file /mnt/hd1/filebglastop.dat has to be deleted on the Humax box. Note that Humax Customer Service assured my wife that the hard drive in the humax box was physically broken and the machine had to be returned to them for either a replacement machine or to have a new hard drive put into it. Eitherway, all recordings would have been lost!

To get in to the humax box to delete the file, these are the steps I needed to do for my machine…

1 – Enable telnet client in Windows 7 on laptop

2 – Connect laptop to turned ON humax box via crossover network cable (Under £5 from a local shop)

3 – Open up COMMAND PROMPT on the laptop: Start > ALL PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > COMMAND PROMPT

4 – View the network details of the new network connection and make a note of them, especially the IP Address of the Humax box – for me it was NOT the same as the IP address read from the Humax box itself.

5 – Enter the command: telnet <IP ADDRESS OF THE HUMAX BOX>

6 – When the humax# prompt appears, give the following four commands:

    /etc/init.d/S90settop shut

    rm /mnt/hd1/filebglastop.dat

    rm /tmp/.humaxtv.holddown

    killall sleep

7 – Check that the * Deleting… tag has gone from the Video menu

    8 – Reboot the machine.

9 – Check that it is all working properly!

For some of these steps I had to search the internet for how to do them, but it was relatively easy to do and once the solution was known, getting there took about 4 hours of time overall – and this is my first time connecting ANYTHING other than a HDMI and coax cable to my humax box.

Thank you to everyone who posted and helped solve this problem!

Don’t forget that you had to install the custom firmware too :)

    Hi!

Yes – the custom firmware was installed first of all.

BTW – the fix worked for about 12 hours before my wife tried to delete something while the humax box was recording. The same problem occured, but now I know what to do, it was easily fixed.

    Thank you!

I think I would try a factory reset after fixing it.

I don’t pay any attention to whether the box is recording when I delete things, and I’m sure my parents and Aunt don’t either. We’ve never had this problem. I thought the issue was caused by starting a delete and then powering the box off at the mains?

I wasn’t aware that anybody had explained what triggers this problem.

I think I may have mentioned a possible cause on the Foxsat which wlso has this problem but I think it was a mains failure, not a power down – Only 1 case so far.

Don’t worry about the greyed out options.

Download and install version 1.01.09 from the link below, boot box after update, all should be well, then upload the latest again from the same link 1.02.28

Instructions for updating are included in the zipped download files.

    http://beta.humaxonline.co.uk/freeview-hd-t2

If that does not work (every confidence it will) then post again and I’ll try something else.

Thank You. I had the same problem and did as you said which fixed my *Deleting tag.I think my problems started when I updated software (as mentioned in the manual). Won’t do that again in a hurry. Cheers

    P.S. I just did the 1.01.09 version

    Hi,

I have a recording which has “ENC” tag on it and when it plays has no sound. I cannot delete this folder no matter how I try. This seems to have happened since downloading software. It appears that the HD channel for us comes with a few issues and this is one. Do you have any ideas please. Thanks

Thank you, guys ……. I appreciate your time. I have arranged to send the machine back to Humax WHEN they get some 1TBs in.

I have to admit, whilst I appreciate that these problems are more hiccups than anything, that I won’t exactly rush to buy Humax again although I was told it was the best on the market.

The no sound is a known issue with 1.00.09 and HD recordings. You need to format the disk and then reinstall the latest software.

In the 2.12 version of the Custom Firmware there is a ‘Deleting Loop’ fix in the Fix-Disk routine that carries out the steps detailed in #47 after fixing other disk errors that can also cause a Deleting Loop Problem, Details HERE

    Hi!

Trying to fix yet another re-occurance of this nasty problem that renders the humax box just a little less useful as a VHS tape…

Now my Humax box will not connect via telnet.

I’ve connected many times before, but not for a few weeks admittedly.

    – Where should I start trying to fix this problem?

    – Is it connected (no pun intended) to the * Deleting… issue???

    All help most welcome!

    Thanks!
