Any news on what OS this new one runs on? Android or Linux?
I would guess Android like the Aura, but nothing confirmed yet.

InactiveIf it’s Android based then why not update the Aura to support Freely and sell that? It will only be an additional layered application and then HUMAX could use common code instead of supporting two different models. Would also make existing Aura users feel wanted and supported, Manhattan does this with their products where possible.

That would be a nice idea but isn’t Freely an alternative to Freeview? I imagine the new Freely humax box can record from an aerial and stream from freely over broadband. It’s a new product Humax can sell. Adding a layer to the Aura wouldn’t generate any more money for Humax.

InactiveIf what I suggested turns out to be correct and its going to be sold by Freely (Everyone TV) and not Humax it makes sense to have a separate box. Freely will do customer service and a closed system with no random apps causing problems, as per the Aura, will make their lives easier.
A stable reliable PVR with 4 tuners for terrestrial TV and the speed/simplicity of the Freely app alongside is something I would buy and as I do now use an AppleTV/Fire/Roku/Google for all other streaming services.
It will be what the Manhattan should have been.

If Freely sell it then do you think it will have ‘Titan OS’ like the freely Tv’s, rather than Android?

I can’t imagine it will be Android, not if it shares some / the internals with the FVP-5000 (looking at the sockets on the back)

InactiveIt may or may not be Android. The photograph is probably misleading – does any new equipment have RCA (aka phono) connectors? Providing them would allow recording of whatever you are watching on another device (eg capture stick on PC). Can’t imagine the broadcasters would be happy with that.

TVs allow other apps to be downloaded, my feeling is it will be like the Freesat PVR (both are Everyone TV) and have its own OS and have no option to download apps.
If it turns out its an Aura with Freely it will be just as unreliable as it is and all the other streamers that are at the mercy of bugs in not only their own software but every other app installed on it.

Not sure which photos you are looking at but the 5000 had phonos the 6000 is not showing any (on the photos I’ve looked at) or the USB of the 5000.

the 6000T USB is showing as being on the right hand side near the front on some retailers’ images

Not much, is known About This New box At the moment. what I think we can say though, is it uses a completely different chipset too the 5000. Hardware these days is also predominantly designed with HDMI in mind, hence the lack of AV sockets on the box. Freely will almost certainly require the use of up to date content protection standards which further reinforces the idea of an updated chipset. lack of support for updated Content protection standards on the 5000 is the reason why support for some apps has ceased on the device.
Information from the small 3rd party retailers on the 6000 seems to be very much placeholder information in my opinion and will probably change somewhat between now and release. I will also say, that I think that. Being able to record the IP channels on this box is about as likely as Rachel reeves not increasing taxes in the next budget in my opinion. what?

InactiveI must admit, if if doesn’t record IP channels, then there is no way I am buying this until loads more channels are on Freely!
Not recording IP channels is abackward step imo.

InactiveA good old-fashioned Freeview or Freesat PVR will remain a useful device to have in your TV set-up whatever fancy new streaming device you may also decide to have.
(a Chromecast TV dongle is my weapon of choice getting increasing usage apart from commercial Freeview channels which I prefer to record on my old Digitalstream PVR)

True, but for how much longer will TV be broadcast over the air?

https://rxtvinfo.com/2025/upbeat-arqiva-awaits-clarity-on-freeviews-future/
“The company that’s behind the UK’s network of TV and radio transmitters is waiting for a decision on the future of traditional TV, but confirms it has signed up broadcasters to remain on Freeview until the 2030s.”
Another five years at least, maybe.
