InactiveI have a Humax Aura which seems to constantly restart and its driving me nuts.
Is there anything tried and tested that can be done about this?
Thanks in advance

InactiveOur Humax Aura does the same thing every few days. Sometimes multiple times in short succession.

InactiveOurs does this almost daily, its so annoying and no idea why?
If i am watching live TV, it will just turn off and i get a restarting kinda symbol in the middle of the screen.
If it happens when i am watching a recording it will turn off, and it never remembers where it was up to, and have to start from the beginning.
When it happens you often hear a slight sequel, like the hard drive turning off suddenly.
All Humax have ever say it do a reset, which is what they seem to say to everything, even though this is clearly a bug their end.
I am hoping this so called new software update will at least fix this issue.

InactiveThis symptom is the direct source of my Tourettes

InactiveI found my Aura 2Tb was starting to do this random restarts, slow full auto restart and crashing on playback with a sort of ‘boink’ sound for the last year.
I tried Freeview resets and factory resets. Then picture started to black out after a few seconds. It finally refused to work and I took it back to Richersounds under its 6 year guarantee. It was my 2nd Aura and it lasted 4 years. They sent it away to Humax and I have been given a new replacement.
Maybe the Aura and it’s hard drive starts to do these random errors until it finally kicks the bucket? Make sure you get the extended guarantee from your vendor if you can.

ModeratorOn the rare occasion I have witnessed this, restarting apps usually fixes the issue.
Freeview play button.
Scroll to power icon at top of page.
Select restart apps from drop down menu.

InactiveSame problem… Random rebooting, so it means losing the odd recording since it cut out in the middle sometimes.
Solution: The Aura PSU is only 2 amps (24Watt), and although it sits around 9 Watts most of the time, it peaks at over 20 Watts very occasionally… and sometimes the PSU is not up to the surge to peak power…
I changed PSU for a 4A 48 Watt power supply from one of my FVP 5000’s and now it boots from cold to a stable state much quicker , doesn’t stall on flicking back and forth when watching a recording.
It was just about OK when I bought it, but over the last few months just got slowly worse until it got annoying. I did think a 2A 12v supply was a little bit risky, and it proved me right in the end.

I’m in awe of your technical skill. Do you mean swapping the power brick or did the power supply upgrade involve any opening up and soldering in new component? Or could a less technical person do it? Could I use a PSU (power supply unit?) from a 4000T? I would only do as a last resort if I couldn’t get a repair under extended guarantee.

No. They have the same voltage, and the same size and polarity connector.
You can substitute a PSU with a higher amp rating, as long as the voltage is exactly the same, and the connector is the same polarity. The Aura will only draw the current (amps) it needs, so a higher amperage supply will not harm it. The amperage rating on a power supply indicates the maximum current it can provide.

InactiveSo are you saying that the Aura’s PSU power brick isn’t up to the job and causes some of the problems mentioned above? I was a bit confused about exactly which power units you could use as a replacement? Which ones would you recommend?
Are all the problems caused by this or are some software, other hardware or manufacturing issues?

InactiveI’ve got 6 Humax FVP 4000/5000 boxes, and they were supplied with 1.5A , 2A , 2.5A or 4A power supplies.
Mostly swapped out HDD for a laptop or solid state disk, so power consumption was lowered a bit but the main difference was the peak power needed by the disk was lower and it reduced or cured glitching…
The Aura is much more fragile because it is doing much more multitasking and the hard drive will shut down if demands power that it can’t have, and this shuts down the Android system to reboot.
The thing that tipped my box over the edge and turned glitches into crashes was, I’m convinced, leaving 2 USB 256GB thumb drives plugged in so I could watch already downloaded material.
So I swapped my PSU for the best FVP one which is 4A.
Unfortunately the DC plug is fairly unusual, although you can find converters (I have used them before but they’re not ideal), and if I hadn’t already got a suitable one I would have just chopped the DC lead and put it on a generic 5A 12v adapter, but that’s best done only if you have a multimeter and maybe a soldering iron.
For all I know my solution may be unique to my particular situation, but I appear to be have suffered from all the annoying faults discussed on this forum which were getting more persistent and have now all gone.
I was an electrical engineer and scientist for 40 years, so I appreciate that others may have a different origin for their faults…just saying ..

InactiveThat’s worth knowing mcquaterx,I was about to but another Aura, but the chances are it will come with the same crappy power supply.
I don’t understand why,if the box is being asked to do more tasks why the power supply is so under powered.Cost I suppose.

InactiveHumax have been aware of this issue since their update caused it. They know all of the happenings (circle, homescreen, losing place of what you were watching, mute turned off so sound turns back on, temporarily losing EPG, ETCETERA). They have fault logs from users but have chosen not to rollout a fix. They have even told customers to stop contacting them about it.

Is anybody, outside of Humax, beta testing the promised firmware upgrade?
