The one I brought had the same OD as the original and why I chose it however it didn’t have the single centre pin so I ended up using the adaptor and cutting the connector off the original.

Can you not just do a “How to video”?

If you are the type of person that owns a multimeter you shouldn’t need instruction and if you don’t you won’t be able to test it.

USE THE FOLLOWING AT YOUR OWN RISK

For those that don’t have a multimeter but want to risk it both my Humax PSUs (a 2A and a 2.5A) have words printed on the positive wire and long lines on the negative wire, NO GUARANTEE EVERY HUMAX PSU IS THE SAME.

I finally got round to changing over to a 12v 5a power supply by cutting off the original Aura about 100mm away from the barrel connector. Keeping the wires from the original connector this short reduces any resistance that may be caused by using the smaller 2a cable.

It has certainly helped matters and doesnt reboot nearly as often as before.

I have also found that the ITV Quiz channel is more readily available (see my other post entitled ‘are the tuners in the Aura rubbish?’

    So far so good.

Since changing the power supply I have not had any reboots. Looking good so far

Are there no power supplies that can be bought that had the correct plug at the end, so we don’t have to rewire?

Quite possibly there are, but they would be a direct replacement for the one you already have – 2A.

At least by rewiring you can guarantee it will fit the Aura.I understand that the Aura has a special barrel plug which is unique to the PVR.

Someone else might be able to help you more, sorry.

Same problem… Random rebooting, so it means losing the odd recording since it cut out in the middle sometimes.

Solution: The Aura PSU is only 2 amps (24Watt), and although it sits around 9 Watts most of the time, it peaks at over 20 Watts very occasionally… and sometimes the PSU is not up to the surge to peak power…

I changed PSU for a 4A 48 Watt power supply from one of my FVP 5000’s and now it boots from cold to a stable state much quicker , doesn’t stall on flicking back and forth when watching a recording.

It was just about OK when I bought it, but over the last few months just got slowly worse until it got annoying. I did think a 2A 12v supply was a little bit risky, and it proved me right in the end.

I have just looked this up and the 5000t came with a 2.5A 12v power supply not 4A 48watt. Have I got this right? Can you explain?
